Browse Forums Safer Living 1 Aug 30, 2015 12:30 pm I really want to install a Samsung digital door lock on my front door, but not sure where to buy from, and what model. Bunnings seem to sell them, but are more expensive than the eBay ones (that originate in Korea). Not really sure what path I should go down. Anyone had any experience with these locks? Re: Digital Door Locks 4Nov 10, 2015 11:06 am Hi, we looked at the ones on ebay also and found that most of them come with Korean manuals and the fact that returns would be a pain in the butt was enough to deter us. They have tiny little connectors to connect the door sensors and they break very easily so returns are a MUST. We ended getting the SHSP-717 from bunnings. Paid $15 extra for freight and had it the next day. Haven't used it yet as our house is still being built. Longevity and warranty far outweigh any savings on the initial price. I know three people that have the digital Lockwoods ( various models ) both homes and businesses and they are very happy with them. Stewie Re: Digital Door Locks 8Jan 02, 2016 6:13 am Look like fun - are they wired or battery ? What happens when they go flat - can they be manually operated ? I have one of those tap locks where I "hide" my keys. They can be broken into - but it is very hard - especially when the are on the tap. They are certainly not secure and certainly do not meet insurance requirements . Show us some data where an insurance company won't pay out if you are robbed and they get in through one of these digital locks. I doubt Lockwood and the other manufacturers would be selling them otherwise. Burglars are opportunists and will enter through the path of least resistance - usually side windows not the front door where they can be readily seen. Re: Digital Door Locks 12Feb 08, 2016 7:30 am Bramah Such digital locks should only be regarded as a convenience / day lock. They are certainly not secure and certainly do not meet insurance requirements . In that case, you'll probably want to switch insurance providers. My policy says that I need a deadlock on the front door, and I believe the lockwood we have, being a deadbolt, qualifies Re: Digital Door Locks 13Feb 08, 2016 12:23 pm I talked to our neighbours friend who is a retired insurance assessor and he said the same thing. As long as you have a secure deadlock on your front door anything else is pretty much superfluous and is there merely to make the day to day opening of the door easier for the occupants. Stewie Re: Digital Door Locks 14Feb 09, 2016 8:36 pm Read the fine print. Very often the exact wording is along the lines of : " key operated deadbolt " If you have no key to loose or be stolen and you have a break in with no visable damage & a sizeable claim and seriously expect insurance to pay out your living in a fools paradise - they don't make any money paying claims. I can open a lockwood mechanical digital lock in about 30 seconds with no damage and not a mark on it. Re: Digital Door Locks 15Feb 11, 2016 10:14 am For what it is worth I wouldn't rely on just one lock on my front or rear door. We have two - a keyed deadbolt and an old style keyed mortice lock with handle. As soon as we get home we pop the deadbolt and just rely on the mortice lock to come and go. I'd still use a deadbolt but use the digital lock when we were home. Stewie Re: Digital Door Locks 16Feb 11, 2016 12:56 pm We are having a Samsung digital door lock without a dead bolt but the solution is easy for us, just make sure the neighbours have a bigger tv than ours and we should be safe . But as for real security, I think it has been proven many times before that if you have something worth stealing they will find a way in regardless of what door lock you have, best bet is cctv so you can atleast see who stole your stuff. Just my 2c. Other companies are catching up, but August is still the way to go. Also very simple to install.
