What core cable should I use for my alarm?
I'm looking to use a hills reliance 16 system.
My options are 4 core free or 6 core I have to buy.
What are the pros and cons of each

You could wire the tamper switch inline with the EOL resistor and the relay so it's still detectable but doesn't take up an extra pair. I did use 6-core to the siren box (2 for speaker, 2 for tamper, 2 for strobe) as it's outside so it needs to be protected. Note: Not a pro, I just DIY'd my own alarm. Technically if your alarm has the capability to connect to a telecommunication system (e.g. a phone line or can take a phone SIM or an ethernet point) you're not allowed to install it or do the cabling for it without the proper certs. Lesson I learnt: Don't cheap out on single mode PIRs. I did and started suffering false alarms. Replaced them all with dual mode (PIR and microwave) and the false alarms went away. These were Ness Quantum 'pet aware' series PIRs. |
