Browse Forums Safer Living Re: IP CCTV system recommendations 63Nov 21, 2014 9:34 pm Crazyk I think you'll need cat 6 then Mirz... Is that correct? That's correct, CAT6 is standard these days. A descent PoE switch and an old desktop to use as NVR. But better to buy hikvision nvr as they don't cost much these days. CAT5e should do the job too, but it cost same as CAT6 now. IP CCTV system recommendations 64Nov 21, 2014 9:36 pm Slattery2 So if henley dont do data points outside how am i going to do it If you have electrical appointment, better ask them for data points under eaves. We were not aware of electrical appointment. And our tender presenter wasn't interested to get involved into electrical stuff. Re: IP CCTV system recommendations 65Nov 21, 2014 11:29 pm It may be better to leave the ethernet tails in the eaves as they are and have them terminated off when installing the cameras . This will be more secure than having a keystone installed in your eave and plugging the camera into that with a patch lead that could be easily snipped to knock your cameras out. Re: IP CCTV system recommendations 66Nov 23, 2014 7:38 pm IP CCTV does not require data points, since it is intended to be a permanent connection from the cameras to the recording unit, having data points on the eaves will make the system more unreliable. CAT6 Cabling is preferred, and should be ran to the location where the recorder unit is to be connected, such as a Office, Study, Wardrobe or Walk in robe, this means in a home with a smart wiring setup this cabling will not run to the hub. Now i am totally confused..... Just ask for data points rough in under eaves where you want your cctv cameras. Cat6 is now standard with most of builders, but better to confirm during appointment. Data cablers know where they need to run cctv cameras to. Generally in walk in robe these days. Also don't forget to request power point in walk in robe where all cables will terminate. This will be helpful to power up your PoE switch / recording device. Re: IP CCTV system recommendations 70Jan 05, 2015 10:40 pm mirz Slattery2 Isnt cat 6 cabling what is used for data points anyway? Now i am totally confused..... Just ask for data points rough in under eaves where you want your cctv cameras. Data cablers know where they need to run cctv cameras to. Generally in walk in robe these days. . Data points under eaves for security cameras is bad advice. Not only will it be less reliable, but having exposed CAT5 cabling connecting to a wall-point outside will look pretty amateur. Running all data cables for CCTV to one location other than the patch panel is not always the best choice, and the best location is only decided after consultation with the home-owner. One example - with some of our customers we terminate the IP camera cabling to the patch panel, this way you have versatility in that the recorder unit can be moved to any and every room that has a data point. Thanks. my understanding was that under the eve was a safer bet as cables were not exposed and cameras were sitting away from direct weather and sunlight. Also most of display houses has cameras installed under eaves. Re: IP CCTV system recommendations 72Jan 17, 2015 7:43 pm The IP cameras will be installed at a location that provides optimal coverage for the desired area, regardless whether it is on a brick wall or under eaves. Many homes do not have eaves. When you use good quality cameras you will not have issues with water or sun regardless of where they are mounted. On the note of protecting the cables from weather exposure, if it's installed correctly you will not have problems with moisture, cheaper installations will have failures and problems later on so attention to detail is important Antenna Direct Perth www.antennadirect.com.au 0423919037 Get your home NBN Ready Smart Wiring and Structured Cabling in Perth Antenna Installations | TV Wall Mounting | Data Cabling HD Security Camera Systems / CCTV Re: IP CCTV system recommendations 73Jan 17, 2015 9:33 pm Thanks BJ88, which HD camera brand and model would you recommend for outdoor? I'm looking into couple in wide angle for front and rear and narrow angle for sides. There are too many installers out there and everyone is giving very contradicting views on brands. What's your thoughts on hikvision HD cameras? Thanks. Re: IP CCTV system recommendations 74Jan 18, 2015 1:34 am I make recommendations for individual clients based on their requirements, budget and expectations so I'm unable to answer this question for you. You will get contradicting views as everybody uses different gear, it is influenced by personal experience, supplier relationship, ease of use, profit margins and the market. Hikvision is a well known and used brand, but the same can be said about all the other common brands too, chose your installer not solely based on what they use or price, but based on their customer service, helpfulness and reputation. Thanks. Hikvision cameras have a option in the web page console to rotate the image around 90 degrees. You could then use the same type of camera for front and rear wide angle and also down the sides of the house. Have a look at networkcameracritic's website for some reviews. Re: IP CCTV system recommendations 76Jan 21, 2015 11:44 am Anyone knows and has experience with "Complete Alarms" or "Smarter Security" who offers security cameras and installation? Please share your thought. Thanks. Re: IP CCTV system recommendations 77Feb 06, 2015 9:05 pm can someone make a recommendation for my situation? im after six outdoor IP 3MP cameras with IR, varifocal or motorised lens and onboard storage. probably an 8 channel PoE NVR and id like around 4TB of storage. Also im a mac user so it would need to be compatible. my budget is around $3500. I have already run cat6 and can fit out the system myself. any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks mirz. That looks good, price is cheaper than expected too. Does it have a built in microphone? Do you know of one that has the Motorised Lens? If you could advise on part numbers for the NVR that would be great too Re: IP CCTV system recommendations 80Feb 07, 2015 10:46 am Or is there a good website that I can look at to compare the different models?
