Learnt from personal experience. Re: IP CCTV system recommendations 23May 09, 2014 4:59 pm You can get cameras that are as cheap as $25 Each, and ones that are as expensive as $1000 each, and it all comes down to brand, specific model, resolution and picture quality. If your simply after to record what is happening around your property, Analog cameras will do. If you want to get to the point where you want to Identify people and number plates, you need to go at least a 2 Megapixel Camera, 1920 x 1080 Resolution, resolution is one thing but if you don't have a quality camera the image will not be clear in some conditions. I supply and install Hik-Vision HD Cameras for most of my installs. Any possibility you can put up a screenshot of the view of the camera to get the viewing angle? Best bang for buck cameras. Just don't buy them from Australia as you will pay through your nose. You should be able to get these around the $100 mark last time I was looking. Re: IP CCTV system recommendations 30Jul 10, 2014 8:55 pm AliExpress is the way to go. eBay will cost more. Re: IP CCTV system recommendations 32Jul 10, 2014 9:19 pm Above shots are from 4mm lens. By default this camera comes with 6mm lens. 4mm gives you wider view to cover more area. When ordering don't forget to request lens you are after. Re: IP CCTV system recommendations 33Jul 22, 2014 3:02 pm I've got four Vivotek 8332-C IP cameras, I'm using CAT6 cabling and TP-Link POE injectors. POE switches are good, but a little too noisy. So I opted to go with the injectors which don't produce any noise. These push back to my little gigabit switch and into my QNAP. I use the QNAP for both storage and security. Oh, and there was three extra QNAP licenses required. For me it works out cheaper, I was always going to purchase a switch and a NAS. No issues and worked out of the box. Re: IP CCTV system recommendations 34Jul 22, 2014 6:37 pm I have 2 cameras running on my qnap 212 without purchasing extra license. With firmware 4.x you have 2 free licenses. Yes, you are correct. https://license.qnap.com/ModelBrowse.html?cid=92 Re: IP CCTV system recommendations 36Aug 16, 2014 2:25 pm Hi All. I am sorry to bug you but I have some probably very silly questions. Qnap is like a hosting service? they record your data and store it on their servers? Does this use up your internet data usage? Do you need to be a licensed security tradie to get access to it? If so, I'd probably need to keep it off the internet as I don't want to muck up speed or usage. BUT I want to be able to view the camers on my PC screen and on my phone.. I assume they have an app for this? Is it free? If I used these HikVision 2332 3mp camera are they water proof? ie can I place them under my eaves and if we get sideways rain and storms, will they still run ok? 4mm wider viewing angle - better for front yards, driveways and out the back areas? 6mm narrower viewing cone, better for running down the sides of house and sheds? NvR recorder - I gather you can get any type to work and record with these cameras? Do the cameras have a setting to record motion only? I don't really want to record 24/7. I just want incidents to be recorded. And they do nightvision really well too? I gather they have a 10 metre or so range from the photo posted? I was looking at the swann stuff but this thread has got my interest. Sorry for the hundred questions. Re: IP CCTV system recommendations 37Aug 16, 2014 2:35 pm Same seller linked above has these 720P versions of the same camera for $115 each. http://www.aliexpress.com/store/product ... 95763.html Re: IP CCTV system recommendations 38Aug 24, 2014 12:09 am I supply and install Hik-Vision security cameras in Perth, and they are my camera of choice. Most of them have water-proof IP66 rated cameras and are designed to be used outside. They are regarded as very good cameras and are used in many commercial areas, Perth Airport uses them. Hik-Vision will not provide any warranty or repair on cameras purchased from online stores such as from Ali-Express or Ebay. Be careful when you buy from Ali-Express, you are limited to the 7-Day return policy and not much else in terms of Australian warranty or product support if you have an urgent failure. Just to answer some questions asked. - In terms of IR Range, most smaller IP Cameras on paper will have a spec of say 30 Meters, but that depends on many factors such as how dark the area actually is, and how the camera is aimed. - You CAN use one brand of camera with another brand NVR's, however sometimes there can be compatibility issues or bugs when mixing and matching, best to use the same brand. - The type of lens you use is determined by how much zoom you require and viewing angle, example placing a camera high up however requiring detail on a far away area warrants more zoom, in small areas like Patios you want a wider viewing angle and a lens to suit to capture more area. - Hik Vision NVR's are able to be configured to record on motion trigger with individual zones, 24 hour recording will fill up smaller hard drives pretty quickly. - Swann are OK, but they don't always develop all their own cameras, you'll find that the top tier Swann cameras are actually re-badged Hik-Vision cameras. Does this use up your internet data usage? Do you need to be a licensed security tradie to get access to it? Yes and more. Think of it like a server, it essentially hosts the cameras but can also do many, many other things. It can store all your photos, files, music (it has an itunes service), and stream all your movies (using great apps like Plex), you can even setup the device to have redundant disk drives, so if one fails, then it will email you while you get a replacement, that new disk simply rebuilds itself once you insert it (ancient news in the server world, but great for a consumer device in the home). So you get a security platform, plus so much more at what can be a comparable price to a traditional CCTV setup. All you need is a licensed tradesman to install the CAT5 or CAT6 cables in your home, the rest can be setup by anyone with a simple understanding of computers. I assume they have an app for this? Is it free? It won't mingle with your internet speed. The cameras are hosted on your ethernet network, they are not streaming across the internet and essentially if you are using a switch then it will have it's own segment of data. Qnap have an app you can use on things like Apple and Android devices, though they also have a brilliant interface you can use through most browsers. The only negative is ideally your security cameras should not exposed to the internet. Though I'm sure you could segment all the camera traffic on it's own network -- though you would need someone with some understanding of networking to assist.
