Browse Forums Safer Living 1 Jul 15, 2013 12:33 pm Following a recent break in, I sought a quote for a home alarm system through RAA (with a Paradox security system – Magellan MG5050). For the touchscreen codepad, 4 motion sensors, pet friendly sensor and smoke detector, the quote was approximately $1600 and to have perimter protection with an additional 12 reed switches it was an extra $1,000. A colleague of mine recently had a system installed (not the perimeter protection) and paid approximately $800 less – I was advised that the higher cost was due to better sensors/equipment etc but I'm not sure whether this is the case. Can anyone give advice on the Paradox Magellan MG5050 system and whether this quote seems reasonable? Also, is it worthwhile to get perimeter protection or is the alarm enough? Thanks! Hi there, Not sure if this is relevant or not but we had an alarm system installed. It was a Bosch system with 5 sensors (not sure exactly of the specs etc.) and included 2 remotes. This cost us around $600 to be installed in Melbourne. Have no complaints at this system. Has worked great.
