Browse Forums Safer Living 1 Nov 05, 2012 12:53 pm My two external doors come with ordinary locks where you just push the centre of the knob to lock. These are really easy to break in, aren't they? I have no deadlocks or security mesh doors yet. I would love some advice on how you picked your security doors/locks etc. and what kind of tradesperson would be able to install these? I am on a tight budget and there's not much in the house to steal (so I don't need a high tech alarm system or keyless entry etc) but it's the thought of intrusions that scares me so I am thinking to upgrade my locks somehow!! Re: My doors come with standard push-in locks 2Nov 14, 2012 4:48 pm There is no need to spend heaps on a quality lock for your main entry points but it is definitely worth getting a quality deadlock. While you can get cheap $30 dollar locks, I would definitely recommend getting something like the Lockwood 005 Paradigm. The 005 Paradigm has some great features that let you adapt the lock according to your homes requirements eg: use the Passage mode so that people can enter or exist the home with no fear of the door being automatically locked. As a locksmith company, we would say the 005 Paradigm is one of most feature rich, easy to install and secure locks on the market. We hope our thoughts help and all the best in securing your doors. http://www.frostequip.com.au/ Re: My doors come with standard push-in locks 3Sep 20, 2014 12:03 pm Hi nobl, Great advice from isoteric. I didn't know all the lingo, but that's what I've got. A peep hole and chain to the front door is also great security (for women and children in particular). The security door is another layer of security... that's why there are so many. The last one for tiled roofs that many people forget about is the tradesman's entrance - the ceiling hatch - barrel bolts and a laminated particleboard or 7-ply or similar unbreakable hatch is advisable. The theory is that breaking and entering is a harsher penalty and deters the thieves somewhat. I once got into a neighbour's house through the tiled roof when I was looking after her dog and locked the keys in... took 1.5 minutes total. Corrugated iron roofs are far more secure, cheers Leonardo_23 Re: My doors come with standard push-in locks 5Nov 17, 2014 12:53 pm I think Leonardo has given some really useful security tips. We always look at things from one perspective only and tend to overlook other factors that affect us too. For our storage facility, we have a keyless entry because our customers’ belongings are our responsibility. Our roofs are also made of high quality aluminium to prevent forced entry. For residential purpose, I suggest to have the mesh security door for a start before you move on to more advanced ones. What we have done in a few theatres ( including my own) is run 2 layers of 13mm gyprock, but sounds insulation especially for the bass is really tricky as a lot of that… 4 2542 Hi Stuey, think you’ve got a couple of options here you’d just need to decide your preference/which options suits best. You could recess the windows (just keep in… 1 3966 we have a standard size and often we have a lot of variety to choose 0 3562 |
