I'm specifically looking at the Safety 1st Tot Loks but would think most of the magnetic safety locks operate on the same principle. From what I've seen on the installation of these types of locks, the catch is screwed into the frame and the lock onto the door, but I was wondering for those that have them, if the catch can be screwed into one door and the lock screwed into an adjacent door...so that the two doors essentially keep each other closed? Re: Magnetic cupboard/drawer locks for child safety 3Jan 29, 2011 6:47 pm Hmmm...in that case, does anyone know how good they are if they're installed at the base of the cupboard door? I'm concerned that with the handle towards the top, the little one could put some weight behind a pull and either fall over or do damage to the door/frame/lock. Re: Magnetic cupboard/drawer locks for child safety 4Feb 05, 2011 2:09 pm i think they need to be at the top for a couple of reasons. 1 if you put the latch at the bootom of the door then the child could possible pull the top half of the door open a bit and get there fingers jammed in there. 2 if the latch was at the top of the door you can't open the door at all unless the child works out that he can pull the door open from the bottom a bit. 3 with the latch at the bottom means you need to bend down so one hand can hold the door handle and the other hand to hold the magnet to release the latch. ( i think this would be a pain ) 4 i can put a fair bit of wait trying to pull the door open and it feels solid. Hi everyone.
