Browse Forums Safer Living 1 Jan 04, 2011 9:49 pm Hi all, After a bit of dilemma whether to go for wireless or wired security system, I finally decided to go for the WIRED one. I managed to get a Double Power Point and a Telephone point in my WIR for the same. However, a bit confused about the keypad. I am planning to have the keypad near my kitchen which is obviously away from the WIR. Would I need another telephone point near the kitchen to connect the Alarm System attached in the WIR?? How does the setup work ?? Thanks in advance guys Cheers Re: Wired Security System setup..experts, pls help 2Jan 06, 2011 9:31 am Alarm panel would be installed in WIR and plugged into your powerpoint you have there. Then all keypads, etc are wired back to the box in the WIR, so you need wiring from whereever the keypads will be back to the WIR. Typically telephone cable is not used for this, and wether you need 4, 6, or 8 wires depends on the alarm system. Re: Wired Security System setup..experts, pls help 4Feb 10, 2011 12:20 pm most keypads use three wires these days, the keypad should be mounted near the point of entry, this minimises the need to isolate certain areas when leaving (unless force arm is used) Telecommunications systems, computer Networks and Security systems. I totally agree with everything you have written. Thanks again for your always excellent input and advice. I really enjoy reading your posts cheers Simeon 1 3280 It's all about wireless, self install now. The cost/benefit of wired setups for the house are no longer what they used to be.
