You are better off using laminated glass on the outer pane instead of those ugly mesch screens, especially when you build a new house. The "security" mesch can become a deadly trap in case of a fire as they can prevent you getting out fast enough Re: Security mesch or screens 3Nov 29, 2007 2:20 am i had thought of the fire thing, but there are a couple of company's in pertht hat are doing screens that have some quick release fire mechanism on them. Am afraid to say i have never heard of the laminex thing and can't find anyone in perth that seems to do that Building again . . with Redink Pre-start 04/12 Keys - 03/13 Finishing off. . . Did you have any luck finding a door? We are at that stage now and I was wondering who you found in Perth that did the fire exit screen doors I am not sure what it is called as haven't looked into it much just yet but I would love to get the mesh doors that you can see out of, but people can't see into the house when its open, if anyone knows what this is called I would love to know. thanks Tania Re: Security mesch or screens 6Dec 30, 2007 9:07 pm I don't know what this is called but can't you see out from inside house but not into house from outside with all mesh screens? I think this is one advantage to having screens on front doors in particular, also as Dee Elle mentioned letting air come in without flies /mozzies. If there is a cool breeze at night, I like to have the front door open with the screen door locked and breeze to come through to cool the house naturally.
I am constantly surprised at how many new houses don't have screen doors on their front doors and I don't think they look ugly. Not as beautiful as the timber / stained glass entry doors I guess, but much more functional. To each his/ her own I guess. How the hell did I become a senior member!? I know nothing! Re: Security mesch or screens 10Oct 16, 2008 4:34 pm off2theburbs Just wondering if anyone has any pros or cons. We are looking at the security mesch for our windoes and doors on the new house. Are they as good as the not so nice looking screens ? Might be a bit late but we had the same dilema for the house we are currently building. We ending up going with a product called lamguard, which is like a laminate between two layers of glass. They say it is 47 times stronger than sliding door glass and takes many blows just to make a small hole. Best of all you loose nothing visually and we found it cheap, less that $2000 to do our house including the builders margin which is great compared to screens etc. Re: Security mesch or screens 11Oct 16, 2008 4:40 pm grace_slick On my new apartment there are those security doors that have the criss-cross wire pattern and security mesh as well...I wish we could put expensive incredibly tough glass and some kind of invisible flyscreen as well so we could see out better...those criss-cross and wire mesh things really obscure the view and make everything look so dark. Somewhere in here is a quote I got from a place on a whim for a security glass door, wasnt that expensive, but think about it, doesnt let a breeze in, doesnt let you really talk with someone through it easily. really only serves to let light in and stay safe.... IMO not really practical. Re: Security mesch or screens 12Oct 16, 2008 5:46 pm depends on the kind of window. We have some highlight windows which we were not to concerned about security wise due to there height. We however had some full height windows going from flooring height to the eaves. These are full panels so dont open, so definately dont want security mesh over them. Hi everyone. I am a single mother with little daughter, living in a small tourist town in WA Australia.
