i understand there were already some discussions on security screen...however as a first home buyer and a yet to be "victorian" (been living in sydney but currently building in melbourne), i certainly need the expertise on this issue...
do people usually installed security mesh for all windows and doors? which brand of mesh will you recommend? are we able to get a qoute prior to compare? is the "break in" rate high in melbourne north?
thanks in advance.

Not sure if you are referring to security screens or flyscreens - the latter is not for security! Flyscreens are a screen with mesh to stop insects. Security screens have strong metal bars. We have supplied windows and door at homes with security screens and features just on the ground floor. You can have a look at the crime statistics at www.police.vic.gov.au.

Not sure if this is too late, but with security screens you have a couple of different choices.
There is the standard diamond grille security screens (for doors and windows) - they are probably the cheapest way to go. On windows they can be a bit annoying as they block the view.
The other option is to get security doors and windows that use a clear view mesh - there are several different kinds - but they look great, provide a uninterrupted view, and have the strength and resilience to match Australian standards.
It comes down to budget, and taste.
