Browse Forums Safer Living 1 May 20, 2010 3:55 pm Hi everyone. Was working in my garage when this salesman comes up to my house and offers me the following deal: Crow runner home security system with 3 PIR (hardwired), GPRS module and installation for $300. The catch is a contract for GPRS monitoring for 4 years at $50 a month. Works out to about $1 a day by my own calculation. Can anyone please comment on this deal. I am in Melbourne West.Thanks. Re: Is this a good home security deal? 2May 26, 2010 11:10 am http://users.tpg.com.au/nklobouc//basic.doc Here, I uploaded my most recent quote for monitoring. .47c per day. over 4 years = Yours: $2400.00 Mine: $686.40 Difference: $1713.0 I just got a quote for a Bosh 16Plus, 5 Quad Pir's 3 graphic displays,a couple door reeds, strobe, sirens. $1700 + g.s.t So there you go, don't call him back. What on earth is a crow runner anyway? Re: Is this a good home security deal? 3May 28, 2010 8:26 pm A couple of things: Crow is a budget alarm system, not very realible. GPRS Monitoring is a higher level of monitoring, and costs more for the monitoring station to monitor. However the price seams over the top. You are basically also paying off over 4 years the install company to install the alarm as well. I would get a couple of other quotes. I would personally stay well away from a Crow alarm. I would recommend a Hills - DAS NX Panel is a lot more reliable and will not give you problems down the track, they last a lot longer ( I have seen these get 8+ years), Otherwise i would also try to stick to the better brands, these are Hills DAS NX, Bosch, and Ness. Try getting a couple of quotes from Local Security Companies, they will give you a better deal than the larger security companies out there. Re: Is this a good home security deal? 4Oct 12, 2010 10:07 am Just a warning about some of those people that door knock. There have been cases where these people in fact have been crooks casing out potential victim's. When I built my first house I had a guy come up to me asking about whether I wanted to get cheap security. He had no uniform and I had seen him driving a run down car about half hour earlier. I told him "no thanks, I already have an alarm system". It was all a little to suspect for me.
