Browse Forums Safer Living 1 Apr 15, 2010 10:52 pm Howdy, Im considering an alarm system for my house thats getting built. What id like to know is if anyone has an alarm system for their house that allows you to open your garage door (via a remote) but wont set the alarm off. In other words is it possible to have a dual zone alarm so that i can drive into my driveway, press a button and have my secured garage door open and allow me to park the car without setting the house alarm off. The after parking the car and closing the garage door i could simply turn off the house alarm and enter my house either via the front door or the door in the garage that leads to the house. Any ideas? - Juz Re: Home Alarm & Automatic Roller Door Query 2Apr 15, 2010 11:17 pm They usually overcome this issue by having a delay. In my system there is an extra 30 or 60 second added to the standard time before they go off. Better still why dont you get one with a key fob that when you open the garage door in turns off the alarm. Re: Home Alarm & Automatic Roller Door Query 3Apr 15, 2010 11:19 pm We're having an alarm that when we open the garage door it switches the alarm off. It's a Bosch something-a-rather... Re: Home Alarm & Automatic Roller Door Query 4Apr 15, 2010 11:22 pm I have a remote for my alarm and for my garage.. but I don't have a sensor in my garage, as don't see the point, maybe if I had something valuable in there.. but I just drive in, shut my garage and then turn my alarm off before I enter the house where the sensors are. Re: Home Alarm & Automatic Roller Door Query 5Apr 16, 2010 1:05 am The best option would be have an alarm with multizone, the garage one zone by itself. Then have a key fob which you can press to turn off just the garage zone before you drive into the garage. Then use keypad to unarm the rest of the house afterward. The benefit being if you lost your key & alarm fob worst that can happen is they can access your garage only. We install quite a number of these, it saves having to carry two remote controls around. Just make sure you get a high quality remote as there are some cheapies around, I would suggest a Direct alarm supplies they released a remote last year which we have never had any problems with. Re: Home Alarm & Automatic Roller Door Query 8Apr 29, 2010 1:03 pm My alarm is set with a 60 second delay before it goes off if you enter through the garage, but only 30 seconds from the front door, in other areas it goes of straight away. So it can be set up with some flexibility (we have a NESS system) After 4 years - we're in! Re: Home Alarm & Automatic Roller Door Query 9Apr 29, 2010 5:44 pm hello, Just as someone else said, most doors have an output for some sort of low voltage switch. Get your installer to run a security cable to the roller door motor, this is then connected to one of the zones which can be programmed to operate via a keyfob ( the alarm can then be armed or disarmed via the same keyfob but on a different button ) The roller door can THEN be programmed to be opened by all sorts of different ways if needed, via the internet, mobile phone, any alarm keypad in the house, monitoring company.. etc etc.. obviously this depends on the alarm system you use. i use NESS and they will support all these functions. hope this helped Electrical - Automation - Smart wiring - New homes - Commercial - Data cabling] 1300 050 315 www.cenemelectrical.com.au www.facebook.com/cenemelectrical Re: Home Alarm & Automatic Roller Door Query 10Apr 30, 2010 10:12 am Has anyone considered the risk of alarm fobs? I had a friend who had her bag stolen at saturday sport - they had her car, house and alarm fob. So they got into the car, used the GPS to find "home", used the fob to disable the alarm and stole a stack of stuff before she even realised someone had stolen her bag. Maybe I'm just paranoid Thats why 'home' in my GPS is just my street - no number. Re: Home Alarm & Automatic Roller Door Query 12Apr 30, 2010 10:52 am Home is my GPS is a park several blocks away....I can easily find my way home from there and if I really need to know the 'exact' distance when driving somewhere it's simple to add those couple of klms to the location. Re: Home Alarm & Automatic Roller Door Query 13Apr 30, 2010 3:12 pm I can disable just the garage plus open the garage door via phone. So if I were to receive a delivery whilst no one is home I can effectively get them to put it in the garage and afterward I can close it and re-arm. Likewise through the same system I can talk to a visitor whom has activated the intercom. And then all the other stuff like aircons and setting temps, sprinklers, etc etc. To-date I've not used any of it. Re: Home Alarm & Automatic Roller Door Query 15May 01, 2010 12:32 am im going to guess you are using an M1 or c-bus.. or a combination of both? Quote: Comfort is one of the most advanced yet simple security systems available today incorporating many creative ways to help make you and your family feel safer. You can be alerted when someone is in your garden or driveway. In the event of a break-in or a fire, Comfort can automatically dial-out to phones, pagers or even emergency services to alert or bring help. Comfort has the unique ability of letting the recipient know exactly what has happened by providing access to interrogate the system so that you can know exactly where an intruder is within your home before you go looking for them. Comfort provides security, convenience and control like never before! Comfort can be controlled by listening to the English Voice Menus which are heard through your keypad and telephone. This provides simple guidance when arming the security system or controlling the home, making Comfort very easy to understand and use. When you enter your code Comfort welcomes you by name. Your house is always comfortable and efficient and secure, because the thermostats know whether you are at home, asleep or away and your detection devices can alert you of outside activity even the system is switched off. Lights can come on when you enter your hallway. Your outside lights come on at dusk and off or when there is movement during the night. Comfort can be controlled using your keypad or your home telephone or your touch tone phone from anywhere in the world. Enter your code and Comfort will start to talk to you, offering you the choice from a few menu options, such as arming the system or listening to your messages on the answering machine. Comfort can be set to one of five modes, with just one or two key-strokes, such as Away Mode when leaving the house, Night Mode for Bedtime, Day Mode for protecting an area separately or Vacation Mode when going on Holiday so that your lights and curtains operate for a deterrent effect (optional). Other short-cut keys take you to commonly used menus such as setting a reminder message or intercom mode. Have you ever had your doorbell ring when you were in the bathroom? Or missed a delivery because you were away from the house or in the rear garden? Comfort's Intelligent Door Station allows you to use a cordless phone anywhere around the house avoiding those frustrating situations. If you are away from home and Comfort is armed and the doorphone button is pressed, Comfort can call to your mobile phone or any other phone (if instructed to do so), so that you can talk with your visitor from wherever you are! If no one answers the door phone either from within the premises or remotely, after a brief time, the doorphone can take a message from the visitor and will be played to you when you arrive home. You can even have your doorbell switch-off the vacuum cleaner or the HIFI so you can hear the doorbell and the phone ringing! At the heart of your Comfort system is the messaging centre. This is like eight answering machines in one giving each person in the household their own personal voice mail system which is accessible using their own unique pin-code. An incoming caller would first hear your greeting message and then be able to choose from a list who they are leaving their message for. If you wish, Comfort can forward your messages to your cell phone as they arrive or you can phone in to collect them. Ever left home in a hurry and forgot to switch on the answer-machine? Not so with Comfort because Comfort does it for you whenever you arm or disarm the system, when you arrive home and disarm the system you will hear your message. Upon arriving home a steady light on the keypad shows that a memo has been left, a flashing light shows that an outside caller has left a message. Comfort lets you stay in touch wherever you are. Comfort's in-built voice dialler can call up to 8 telephone numbers. Comfort can call you if there is a power-cut or in the event of an alarm. Additionally, you can call Comfort and interrogate the system for any information, just as if you're at home! Now you can check that all is well at home from anywhere in the world, just call-in from your phone and take away the uncertainty. Comfort's home control option can allow you to control and operate electrical appliances within your home, such as the heating, lighting, air conditioning, curtains or garage doors, in fact almost any appliance. Comfort allows manual control using the telephone or keypad or automatic responses using built-in time programs, integrating the system truly within your home or office. Special power modules using the X-10 protocol are used to control your existing lights to make the house look occupied or to illuminate your escape route during a fire alarm or to control heating, ventilation and air-conditioning appliances (HVAC). Installation is simple because the modules require very little wiring and they receive their instruction as a code down the existing ring-main circuits. The home control menu has eleven sub-menus making possible over 100 custom home control operations! Comfort may be scheduled to perform certain actions at regular times each day, such as switch the heating or air conditioning on and off and can schedule the garden sprinklers to operate whilst on holiday. Comfort can even know not to water on a day when it is already raining. You could even have your Comfort system arm itself at 12.00 Midnight and disarm at 6.00am automatically. The power and usefulness of being able to control or interrogate your system from any phone in the world should not be underestimated. If you wanted to be certain that no-one was in your property before you enter, you can do so. You can also use this feature to phone in and switch the lights or heating on in advance or for convenience even to switch the VCR to record a programme (you'll need to remember the blank tape). Whenever you go out or go on holiday, set Comfort to Vacation Mode.Homes are often burgled while the property is obviously unnoccupied, so doesn't it make sense to make your house look like there is someone living there even when there isn't? Comfort can help by simulating the appearance of an occupied home by switching lights and closing curtains and even operating the TV or radio . Comfort's Vacation Mode does this using random control within a one hour time window to achieve a realistic effect. Another Comfort function is to deter prowlers should they come close to the property. The system can detect movement in the rear garden or yard and then switch lights on in a sequence, for example, first the outside light switches on, then the bedroom, then 5 seconds later, the landing, then the hall to give the appearance of someone in the house getting up to investigate. Comfort can also dial-out silently and alert you. Comfort can have up to 8 keypads and intercoms giving you the ability to listen to sounds within your property from your home phone, cellular phone or another keypad. You can also make an announcement through your speakers. Intercoms and keypads can have many uses. To save your legs and your voice, you can broadcast a message to everyone around the house, what could be easier? If you are a carer or you have a baby, you can use the intercoms in 'monitor mode' to listen for sounds in the vacinity of the keypad, Comfort is always there to keep you in touch. Reminder messages may be set at certain times of day to remind you of appointments, take medicine or when your favourite TV programmes are on. At the programmed time, a "ringing" tone will be heard on the Keypad and house phones will ring and the message can be heard when you answer the phone. Or you could have your reminder messages call your mobile phone to give you messages wherever you are. Comfort can be used as an alarm clock to wake you up each morning. You can even program it to not ring at all at the weekend! 2 6315 There is no reason why building contract reconciliation cannot be done prior to handover, if the builder won't do it get someone to do it for you.
