Browse Forums Safer Living 1 Dec 01, 2009 2:19 pm I'm planning my budget for after I move in and have written down security doors because it was something that was always insisted on in any house I moved to as a child. I'm just now really thinking about it though and wondering - do they really add to the security of the house? I'm talking about a security door to the front, laundry sliding and back sliding doors here - if someone really wanted to get in, couldn't they just go through a window or the roof anyway? I do want some sort of door there, so I can open up the 'solid' doors and let the air flow in in the summer (but not the flies/mozzies), but do I really need a security door?? Does anyone have any thoughts? P PS. By default, I'm probably going to get the security doors anyway, I'm just playing a bit of devil's advocate with myself... Re: Security doors 2Dec 01, 2009 9:07 pm We have security doors, DVA mesh, on our front door and sliding doors but not the laundry - our laundry door is hinged, not a sliding door. Im not sure they do a huge amount for security but that wasnt really our motive - we just wanted something lockable that we can have solid doors open for air flow (didnt think air flow in laundry really mattered, other than opening the window) - so if you want to acheive this and you dont want security doors what else would you do - other than flyscreens which are not very durable, especially if you have pets Re: Security doors 3Dec 02, 2009 6:54 am Helyn We have security doors, DVA mesh, on our front door and sliding doors but not the laundry - our laundry door is hinged, not a sliding door. You're right... they'd probably destroy fly screens in mere minutes. I don't know what I was thinking... P.
