One of the first thing I would like to change is the door locks but when I go to bunnings and get new locks all keys are different. I have three doors that I would all like to have the same key. In Europe I knew where to get this organized, but here I have no idea. I'm from the sutherland shire Jack Re: all doors same key 2Aug 17, 2009 10:39 pm We did this, all you need to do is go to the Trade Counter and place an order for "keyed alike" locksets. It might take a few days, maybe a week to get in, but then you have the piece of mind that all the locksets are the same. A word of advice though, check that they all work with the same keys before leaving the store. They got one of ours wrong and it wouldn't open so back it went to be "keyed alike". I think it was a very small charge to have this done, something around the $10 mark i think?? Nothing worth worrying about. Go into your hardware store and ask the question. It is a common enough request. Re: all doors same key 4Aug 19, 2009 10:51 pm jacobvz Hi, I am almost the owner of a new second hand house. Re: all doors same key 6Sep 24, 2009 4:51 pm You don't take the locks to Bunnings, you buy new locks from them. However, in buying new locks, you don't get them off the shelf, you go to the special orders counter and ask to order in the locks you like, but all keyed alike. The order takes a week or so to come in, then you go home and fit the new locks to your old doors. OR If your existing locks all take the same TYPE of key, you can remove the locks from the doors, take them to a locksmith and get them to change the pins in the barrel so that the one key opens all the doors. Then you get the locksmith to cut you a couple of new spare keys, take the whole kit and caboodle home and refit your old locks to your old doors. If your door locks don't take the same key, you will have to go with option number 1. Both ways take about the same amount of time and effort, but option 2 will cost you significantly less if you can do it. Re: all doors same key 7Sep 25, 2009 3:30 pm Hmm.. ok.. I'm confused. In our previous house, the locks weren't using the same key when we moved in, so we called a locksmith out and I think he just changed the barrel of the lock or something so that we could then use the same key for most of our doors. Does that sound right too? Or maybe he just changed the pins in the lock, not sure, I don't know much about locks. I can't remember how much it cost us. Re: all doors same key 8Sep 25, 2009 9:12 pm I had window locks, patio bolts, and deadlocks all keyed to the same key. I have since learnt that they can do padlocks off the same key, so I got 2 for the side gates, so every lock in my house uses the same key. All of this was done at the local locksmith - for a very reasonable cost - they were actually cheaper than bunnings for the window locks too. Don't underestimate a locksmith, or assume they will be too expensive. Some people suggest that having the same key for all locks is too risky if you lose your key - you have to change every single lock, but my reasoning is that if you're carrying the traditional bunch of multiple keys for all your locks, you're in the same boat anyway. Your house should come in "as new" condition. It should be clean, and without stains 1 4553 A question. Im in Queensland and building a new home.
