Browse Forums Safer Living 1 Aug 09, 2009 1:18 pm Sure it cheap, but will this ebay special be any good? http://cgi.ebay.com.au/WIRELESS-HOME-SECURITY-SYSTEM-HOUSE-ALARM-w-AUTO-DIALER_W0QQitemZ150364508004QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item23026c4f64&_trksid=p4634.c0.m14.l1262 It's fairly basic, but would do all that I want and being wireless, would be very easy to install. It includes: Keypad/Control Panel x 1, Remote Controller x 4, Pet Immune Infrared Detector x 3, Door/Window Sensor x 15, Wireless Smoke Detector x 1 (wouldn't bother installing), Wired Strobe Siren x 1, Wireless Panic Button x 1 (Don't need), Wireless Door Chime x 1 (don't need), Wired Mini Siren x 1. If it works like it is supposed to, then what makes a more expensive worth spending the money on? Re: Would this system be any good? 2Oct 03, 2009 2:28 pm I bought the system. I gave it a dummy run on the bench top this morning and it seems to do everything it is supposed to do. I put the PIRs in different rooms and put the cat in front of one and made him move; didn't go off, I walked in front of it and it triggered. For $150, I'm not complaining. The system I bought has 3 pet safe PIRs, 15 door/window switches, smoke alarm (why?), keypad, siren strobe and indoor siren. It can connect to the phone line to dial up to 6 numbers in the event of the alarm going off, but I'm not sure it is approved for over here. It's all wireless too which makes the setup so much easier. We should be moving in to the house in 4 to 6 weeks, so once we are in and it is installed, I'll give a more detailed review of the system performance. So I guess the real question is then, why do "brand" name systems cost so much when cheap ones do the same job? I can think of a couple of reasons, but I'm curious to see what other people think about it. BTW, the link above seems to have expired but this is the retailer on ebay from which I bought it: click! Re: Would this system be any good? 3Oct 04, 2009 2:03 pm Wireless alarm's with external antenna's is something different usually they are built inside. Wireless alarms are always expensive, but it is the same as any piece of equipment, when you buy a named brand it usually comes with a 2-3 year warranty on labour and equipment. Definetly keep us updated on how it goes. Cheers Re: Would this system be any good? 4Oct 04, 2009 2:04 pm yes I'm very interested too Building with Homebuyers Centre El Questro! Before I hooked up the sirens I went around and walked in front of the sensors and opened all the doors and windows. Everything seems fine and the system works. It's bloody loud too, especially the inside screamer. The outside unit isn't as loud as I'd like, but will still attract attention. For the price, I'd give it a thumbs up. I'll have to see how long the battery life is for all the sensors. The only downside to the kit was the length of cable on everything: the power supply and the 2 sirens. I used wire that I had ****** around and made them a lot longer to reach where they needed to go and apart from that taking ages to do (fiddly), there has been no negative impact on the system. Oh, one more thing, the keypad isn't backlit. But like I've said, for about $180, it's a steal for what you get. The seller is RST Technology if you're curious to have a look. Re: Would this system be any good? 6Oct 12, 2010 1:16 pm hi there, any more updates on the alarm system??? we are thinking of buying this :http://cgi.ebay.com/WIRELESS-HOME-SECURITY-SYSTEM-HOUSE-ALARM-w-AUTO-DIALER-/140452548051?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item20b39fcdd3 from the same seller... any advice would be great! I think mine has a couple of extra bits and a different style siren. You won't be disappointed with it, but put the keypad where it isn't immediately obvious. as if you smashed it or ripped the wiring out/off, then everything will stop. (A thought that didn't occur to me until after installing it!). But price/performance ratio, it's well worth the money. I've just had to replace the batteries in the door and window sensors as the batteries in the box (yumcha brand) don't last more than a few months. I just jumped on ebay and bought a box of energiser batteries for not much and we were back in business. The IR sensors are good, and seem to use less battery power, as I haven't had to replace them yet. Just be aware the wiring on the siren and the power pack aren't very long. I extended mine, so if you are handy with soldering iron, or have a mate who is, then that isn't a problem either. To sum up, good system for the price. You won't be disappointed with what it does. Bought in Nov 21 at the height of the market (classic). Good area, atrocious floor plan. BUT has land out to the left-hand side that we can extend out on (see second… 0 8772 Thanks mate. Yeah good points! Leaning towards Option 3 to get a bit extra space in the cabinets but not going too crazy high (and expensive). Would require a mini… 13 39696 |
