I am only required to build to BAL 12.5, but I am upgrading to higher standards wherever I can for peace of mind. Based on my own research I am happy with everything the builder has recommended - except for the whirly bird. In order to meet the BAL requirement the builder is telling me that all that is 'required' is to put in an ember guard on the whirly bird. However, I just don't feel that a whirly bird is safe during a bushfire - even with an ember guard installed. Can anyone recommend a better option for roof ventilation that is bushfire safe?
