Battens under a cottage

We have a four bedroom workers cottage that was never closed off underneath. Is it worth the time and money building battens under the house? We did battens under the house at the front of the house years ago and visually adds to the house. We are quite time poor at the moment so would be looking to get a handyman to finish off the rest of the house. We need to be adding value to the house not wasting our money.

Thanks for the insights, that makes perfect sense, and yeah, I will be leaning on the experience of the excavator operator entirely.
