The front porch area looks like something from a caravan park, that's for sure. The sliding front door doesn't help! Re: Is there any hope for the facade of this house? 4Feb 06, 2013 2:55 pm cloned_cow It does look caravan like, I'm not sure what exactly is giving that impression. It's the rectangular shape and horizontal boards. Windows of equal size and spacing. Very modular. Re: Is there any hope for the facade of this house? 5Feb 07, 2013 8:33 am Get rid of the red paint, make it all the same colour so it looks taller in heigh... remove the blinds. New front door, picket fence and garden and it will look great. Re: Is there any hope for the facade of this house? 6Mar 04, 2013 10:39 am Depends on your budget....I'd look at getting rid of aluminium windows for some timber window frames, and a nice entry door set. Maybe ebay for 2nd hand stuff?. After this....plants! Re: Is there any hope for the facade of this house? 7Mar 05, 2013 4:12 pm You'd be surprised what a bit of paint can do. The house looks plain and rectangle like others have said. Straight away I thought about what it would look like with a grey/dark colour and a dark blue trim. Kinda like a metallic, minimal look. Add to that some nice green grass and plants and it will be a stand out I reckon. Re: Is there any hope for the facade of this house? 8Mar 10, 2013 3:51 pm As others have suggested, get rid of the sliding front door, replace it with a proper front door. You may need a glass panel window next to the new front door which you can frost or put a blind on. The fence has to go! A nice white picket fence with a proper entrance gate and some softening of the garden area (less grass, a few more plants) will give instant street appeal. Letterbox also has to go, replace it with something a bit more substantial and with a good size street number, so the house looks more permanent and less like a mobile home. The lattice at the front and the awnings over the windows really date the facade. I would get rid of both! Paint the whole front of the house in one colour and paint those red slats under the house area in the same colour as well to give the illusion of height and a more modern feel. Paint the front guttering and those two poles on each side of the front door in a darker shade of the colour used on the facade, consider also painting those stepping pavers to the front door in the same darker colour. Put some nice plants in some funky pots on each side of the front door. This place really is a blank canvas, and these suggestions won't cost a lot. Good luck! 2fk Re: Is there any hope for the facade of this house? 9Mar 17, 2013 8:14 pm I agree with the others. One other thing you could consider to break the square shape up a bit would be to put a deck out the front along to the middle window with a couple of pots with a conifer or simlarly shaped bush in them. This would change the shape and give it a bit of interest and if you have a couple of handy friends it should not cost more than a couple of hundred dollars. Re: Is there any hope for the facade of this house? 10Mar 18, 2013 2:17 pm You could run a deck along the front with a nice balastrade to create interest. Replace sliding door with proper front door. Use solid piers on each end of the porch with feature light fittings. You could even extend the porch further towards the front on the left (looking at it) to create a carport. Solves the lack of carparking issue as well. Lots of garden plants and side fences. Nice picket fence, with a decent path. Re: Is there any hope for the facade of this house? 12Jul 23, 2013 10:35 pm I reckon TwoFatKitties is on the right track, lose the dated lattice and awnings and the cheapo looking fence. I also like jemathonical's idea to go for a minimal look, turn the underlying plainness of the house into its strength not its weakness. I'm not sure about the colour though, my guess is the darker the colour the more people either love or hate it, if its lighter people might not love it but they won't hate it either? But if there's a colour you love, go for it. Darker colours can be a great backdrop for lush greenery too. Landscaping can help but be careful and bare in mind future maintenance, reducing the grass can reduce maintenace or add to it. If done well it ought to reduce mowing and make the house look better. Re: Is there any hope for the facade of this house? 13Mar 29, 2014 10:03 am Adding some visual bulk and scale will help. A picket fence, some landscaping, a little deck, a nice door, creating a welcoming entry. I think it's the flat roof that makes the house look caravan like... I wonder what you could do with that...? Re: Is there any hope for the facade of this house? 14Jul 20, 2014 1:23 pm It needs a proper entrance. Even an arbour spanning that front path would help. Nice gardens to take the focus off the house. I'd keep any additions modern (square, shape, plain) so it doesn't jarr with the house. Nothing worse than a modern home tissied up with a bit an inappropriate fretwork, iron lace and cutesey victorian gardens. I'd go for slat hardwood shades across the front windows and some nice shrubbery, complimented by a rectangular arbour out the front with hardwood slats and some attractive vine. Dear Members I have to decide the Facade column size. My custom builder standard is 350mm with rendering, but i asked for 470mm plus stone or tiles and yet to get… 0 7508 traditional gable roof facade - Have you did the dark and light gray color combination in facade with gray stone in facade… 0 4225 Looking to tile the facade pillars rather than rendering.
