Browse Forums Increasing Home Value 1 Apr 05, 2011 2:17 pm Just wondering what everyones thoughts are on stacked stone feature walls on outside of houses. We are in an older brick house, and are thinking of putting stacked stone around the garage walls (on front of house). So I was just wondering if others like stacked stone or not? Do you think it will effect the sale price of our house when we sell in 4 or 5 yrs? Thanks. Re: stacked stone 2Apr 05, 2011 4:26 pm While I love stacked stone I wouldn't be counting on it to raise your house value. It might make your house more saleable, in that buyers would choose it first over another house that didn't look quite so flash, but I don't think you would recoup the cost of it. The only case I could see where it might add some value is if the remaining houses in the street were very upmarket and adding the stackstone brought your house up to a similar standard when it didn't match in before but I don't really see how stackstone on its own would do that - as part of an entire facelift perhaps, but not on its own. (Did that make sense?) Re: stacked stone 4Apr 05, 2011 4:50 pm Thanks for the advice We got the stack stone for free so recouping the price is not an issue. I am mainly worried that just because I like the look of it there may be a lot of people out there who don't like it. Re: stacked stone 5Apr 12, 2011 6:32 pm The stacked stone may be too much texture/ colours. it may look a little confused. With brick surely you would have concrete render. Perhaps you could use the stacked stone for garden walls, BBQ, paths etc, where it is not right up against the brick wall for comparision stacked stone 6Apr 12, 2011 8:23 pm We have stackstone because WE like it. Don't give a fig what anyone else thinks. Choose what you like and would be happy to see day in day out. Only if it is a house that is going to be put on the market within a short timeframe should you choose to play it safe and not go with your heart. Some things are worth waiting for. Personally, I like the look of stacked stone but I think it’ll date very easily. If you’re looking to sell in 4 to 5 years, I’m not sure it’ll look as good. I doubt it’ll increase your sale price. Re: stacked stone 8Apr 15, 2011 9:10 pm not a fan of stacked stone, been around for atleast 7 years already....and putting on an older house is confusing, people like a house becuase it is a certain character, traditional, modern, victorian, etc....so that would just ruin it.
