Browse Forums Increasing Home Value 1 May 16, 2010 4:14 pm We're going to build a single brick garage at our backyard. it's going to be 5m x 7m. A few questions came out when i'm asking for quotes around. 1) concrete slab--- 100mm thick for garage floor should be enough, right? One builder quote to spread 20mm of crushed rock and F62 reinforcement throughout concrete area. The other builder said crushed rock is not needed as there's steel reinforcement in the concreting. Do I need crushed rock? 2) flat colorbond roof v slope colorbond roof---which one is better? one builder told me the price difference would be thousands $, but the other builder said the difference is only $500 due to the way of building it. Confused? how come the difference is so big?? 3) plasterboard---do I need it for my garage walls? I'll use the garage for storage and workshop. 4) electricity --- does anyone have an idea how much it will cost to install power ponits and lighting units in the new garage? roughly $500 (i guess)?? is there anyone can help me out Re: single brick garage 2May 16, 2010 6:01 pm regarding concrete slab- is that an infill slab put in after bricking is finished or is the slab the foundation?/ If so 62 mesh sounds to week. I would have thought 82 would be min for structial slab. It would also require deep edge beams for the foundation. I cant see the being much saving on truss for non pitched roof. The saving will be more to do with the roof covering. I would aim for a pitch roof just at standard 22.5 degree. That shouldnt cost to much. Electricity is a function of distance. The power run to the shed may be a bit in cost. But power point and lighting should be minimal. DIY, Home Maintenance & Repair Hi all I've got a brick garage/shed at the back of my house.
