Browse Forums Increasing Home Value 1 Apr 26, 2010 9:16 am I am looking to renovate our kitchen and bathroom. Our home(townhouse) is only 8 yrs old hence we are not looking for massive renovation in the kitchen, however bathroom needs a complete makeover. I would need some help around the best deals and companies which can do these makeovers in Melbourne. Went around looking for prices but due to lack of knowledge we think it is best to have a renovator who can advise us and be honest to complete a good job in our budget. Kitchen: Kitchen needs a black granite benchtop, a glass splashback and an oven, rangehood and cooktop. Cabinets in v good condition so no changes required there however we were thinking if we could change the doors and handles to a glossy vineer finish. If cabinets cant be done in this budget does anyone recommend a product to polish or shine the cabinets. they are laminex. (Our budget $6000- based on quotes Granite $1800, splashback $700, Blanco oven, cooktop and ranghood 1800) Secondly what are the first steps..do we get the appliances fitted first, followed by benchtop installation and then splashbacks? Bathroom We have one toilet downstairs which has the laundry attached. And upstairs there is an ensuite with shower and sink. I am told that toilet isnt possible because we might not have the toilet pipe. We also have a seperate bathroom and toilet upstairs. The bathroom and shower share a wall and we were thinking of breaking it and making it into one big bathroom, is that expensive? Bathroom ensuite– Need to get new tiles, bath , glass shower and vanity unit. Its not a very big bathroom but how much are we looking at? Bathroom 2 with Toilet upstairs - complete makeover. Any advise on bathroom and kitchen renovators in Melbourne? We bought our place a yr ago and recently our neighbours have sold their property $150k over our purchase price due to the renovations they completed! I appreciate your feedback and comments. Thanks. Re: Updating Kitchen and Bathroom - Urgent advise required! 2Apr 27, 2010 12:26 pm Sorry I can't really help out at all but just wanted to say that just this morning I was looking at a brochure for a company that updates kitchens as I am thinking our kitchen could definitely do with a lift too. They replace granite bench tops and replace cupboard doors/drawers leaving the existing fitted cupboards etc. (basically, exactly what you are suggesting). Not sure where you are, but they are in Mornington (called Granite Transformations. Sorry, not sure if you are allowed to post business names, so if that gets deleted, PM me). ETA - just realised they are in Melbourne and quite a few other locations across Vic too (and Australia for that matter, I think). Alternatively, for the kitchen and bathroom, you are probably best just to start getting quotes to get an idea of prices and what is 'doable'. Also, I think (??) that you would select the gas top first so that when they are making/fitting the bench they have the right measurements to cut the space to fit the appropriate appliance. But I am NO expert, so please don't go on my advice alone. All the best. You need to have the appliances ready (and at home) when the benchtop is measured. The benchtop needs to go in before you can get your splashback measured. Ceebs I had a quote from Granite3 Trnsfrmations at our lst house (then 5 yrs old) and the cost of just the bench tops was $6200! Which was one of the reasons we decided to sell & build again....
