Browse Forums Owner Builder Forum 1 Sep 17, 2019 8:09 pm Hi all, I have been lurking around this forum from time to time so I thought I would share my owner building story. The build might not be way outside the box or complicated like some others, but trying to build it with my own hands is a huge challenge on its own. A little bit about my background. I am a carpenter by trade, being on the tools for 8 years and now supervising larger building projects for the last 2 years. In 2015 we bought a 2 bedroom cottage on the Central Coast, NSW, with a vision to extend later down the track. After a lengthy process of drafting up plans, getting those plans approved and getting owner builder finance finally in February 2019 I could start swinging the hammer. Our 2 Bedroom love shack had started evolving into a larger open plan 4 bedroom home suitable to raise a family. All that would be kept from the original home was 5m x 4m of the exisiting floor. The new home expanding forward, out on both side and backwards. You can follow a more detailed version of my story so far here: https://ownerbuilderhq.com/series/our-d ... l-insight/. I am attempting to blog about our journey stage by stage, with full costings added into each stage of the build. I have to finalise a few internal framing items formitnto be ready to start plastering. The cladding is 95% installed so far with just a few external angles still to be installed. I suspect not on a google search It's a tough gig... keep trying different things, spreadsheets and books are being replaced with project 3D BIM.hth Designer,Engineer (Civil,Const & Envir),Builder,Concrete & Masonry Contract.Struct Repairs Re: Owner Building - Central Coast 3Sep 18, 2019 12:10 pm StructuralBIMGuy Hi dyl92 Welcome to the forum, nice build I had a quick look at your blog, which is better than most Here are my observations on most Blogs 1.When the project nears completion the blog disappears into the ethernet 2.The projects are what I call (from an information point) single dimension or one size fits all 3.Single build blogs take too long to update, consequently most viewers loose interest 4.newer technologies and updates are costly 5.Are individual blogs worth advertising revenue? Your not wrong, finding the time to maintain the blog and recording information for each stage of the build is time consuming. Advertising is pointless, but anything helps keep the site running helps. I am happy for it to just record my own journey. If the information recorded from the journey helps another then thats a bonus. Maybe later down the track I can include other peoples owner building stories. At the moment know real big plans, just focusing on finishing the build before Christmas!
