wall construction

I am renovating a downstairs storage room to make a bedroom and bathroom. The external wall is single brick skin and I need to put on an inside skin. What is the minimum requirement to save space. Can I just fix villaboard onto 25mm channel straight onto the brick wall?
what about insulation?
I wasn't going to put it in but possibly soild foam say 30mm thick glued to wall in between battens. Not sure if a space between inner and outer wall is required.
