Browse Forums Owner Builder Forum 1 Aug 27, 2018 4:48 pm I'm looking for someone who can do a BASIX for ICF, who understands the product and how it has to done to achieve the correct R value. Re: BASIX for ICF Build 2Aug 28, 2018 10:02 pm I am not in the industry but I have just had to deal with basix certification. I tried the online assessment but as you might have seen the rules have changed somewhat. So my suggestion is to find an energy consultant. Actually it’s all you can do. Looking to pay 650 to get one done. Re: BASIX for ICF Build 3Aug 29, 2018 1:11 am Frankly speaking, R values of ICF walls are already provided by the manufacturers, so any BASIX assessor should be able to simply use them in their models. Bad thing that they are likely NOT to be taking thermal mass effect into their calculations. However, it might have changed with this new certification rules Ardo is talking about (and if did it, it only works in your favour). Re: BASIX for ICF Build 4Sep 02, 2018 11:26 pm You are correct that "R" values are supplied, but it can be difficult to add to the NatHERS assessment. I have had one done previously and don't believe it was done correctly as the wall insulation is R 0.5 less than specified by the OEM and only came out at 7.3 Star. I am not concerned too much about the "New Rules" are I have used my old NatHERS and punched it into the BASIX assessment last night and the only change appears to to be the "Energy Target" in now 50 where previously it was 40. I have decided to make a number of changes to the design as well as add BAL-FZ roller shutters that are now available, which weren't when my original plans were submitted. This will allow me to change my window selection to a cheaper "standard" window (Double Glazed still) which has potentially better performance in the longer term as my BAL issue will be removed in 5-7 years, then I will be left with really strong secure roller shutters. So maybe I should of asked for a Energy Consultant to do a new NatHERS Certificate. then I could do the BASIX myself. Good questions but the best answer will be obtained by visiting (ie: interviewing) a couple of house designers and/or builders and ask them. You may find it challenging to… 2 3234 Thank you so much everyone. This all makes a lot of sense. I guess when you talk to a builder who butters up everything to look very polished, you get to start believing… 7 17598 Hi, did you get any money from insurance? if you did, does it match what you've already paid the builders? 3 9565 |
