Hi there. I am new here.
Over the years I have employed various trades to do various tasks, and have had varied experiences.
I would like to ask about time wasting when being paid an hourly rate.
I am currently in the middle of what I consider a straight forward and simple project, and have wasted a significant amount of money over many things. I am not looking to be judged about project management as I passed the point of caring weeks ago, and am looking forward to this project being finished this week, and a significant lesson learnt.
I would like to ask has anyone else experienced times when trades seem to be just milking you for every cent they can if paid on an hourly rate?
I can provide many examples, however the best one is 52 screws holding a 7m long piece of Fascia on. (in total there was 24 lineal meters of Fascia (200 x 30) and 242 screws held that it in place). This is no joke, and a guy that has been a carpenter for 30 odd years. Each hole was predrilled, Fascia positioned, screwed in place, then a bog with hardner used to fill each of those holes, then sanded (hardest bog to sand).
Am I having the p### taken here? Or are there really chippies out there that think this is how a job is done. Not looking to offend anyone. I have a fair amount of reno experience, but this seems odd to me.
Cheers!!
