The girls aren't so keen to take a shovel down the paddock. I like your choice of tank too Cheers, Pete viewtopic.php?f=38&t=8824 Re: Our Kitome Glenbrook - We've Moved In! 102Jul 03, 2009 1:16 pm Pete, well done on your stunning house. Your thread has been a joy to watch unfold and your family deserve every happiness. May the kidlets, your wife and yourself have many many happy days in your family home. Some things are worth waiting for. Re: Our Kitome Glenbrook - We've Moved In! 104Jul 14, 2009 1:01 pm Thanks kyton and homemaker. It sure is great to be in finally. We put the mailbox up the other day, and then the next day we got our first mail. Still painting doors, and I got a few more skirtings on last weekend too. Just plugging away at little jobs. Cheers, Pete viewtopic.php?f=38&t=8824 Re: Our Kitome Glenbrook - We've Moved In! 105Jul 14, 2009 4:21 pm I keep looking at your thread Peter cause i wonder if we will be able to do what u have done. Can i ask please, did u have everyday to work on it or just on the weekends ? How did u go with budget, if u don't mind sharing? don't have to answer that. Its amazing, i love the layout too. Re: Our Kitome Glenbrook - We've Moved In! 106Jul 15, 2009 12:31 pm We mostly had just weekends and evenings to be working on the place. I took a number of weeks off work to crack on and get stuff done (like when the roofers were here and I lackied for them). Being a teacher my father-in-law had school holidays to come and do a bit too, which helped move things along. And we were a bit over budget. We saved a lot on some things, but others I was a bit light on. There were a few things in my initial budget that I was a bit slack about finding out costs and took an estimate. If we were to do it again I would have been a lot more thorough initially. But in saying that its worked out pretty well in the end. We aimed to get it all up for around $200k. We've got away with about $225k. That includes tank, shed, garage and house, so we're pretty happy with that. We're really happy with the layout and the style of house is pretty much exactly what we were after. HH Life's too short too drink bad wine Re: Our Kitome Glenbrook - We've Moved In! 109Jul 16, 2009 3:00 pm HH we got a guy from the shop to lay our floor for us. He offered to do it for half the price that the shop wanted, cash (just don't mention it to his boss ). We figured he could knock it over nice and quick rather than us stuff around for days and probably make heaps of errors. He did all of it in a day and a half, with no stuff ups. The boards are 160 wide too. I heard that somewhere about the kits as well homemaker, take the price and double it. Cheers, Pete viewtopic.php?f=38&t=8824 Re: Our Kitome Glenbrook - We've Moved In! 111Jul 18, 2009 10:11 pm Hi again Each of those were close enough to $10k (Including things like electricals, pumps, etc), so take off around $30k. That's a rough figure, I've got the actual numbers somewhere. Cheers, Pete viewtopic.php?f=38&t=8824 Re: Our Kitome Glenbrook - We've Moved In! 112Jul 20, 2009 3:11 pm A few more bits and bobs. Got our toilet roll holders and towel rails up. I also hung the mirror in the ensuite. Its nearly done now, just a door knob to go now. But you've been really quick! Life's too short too drink bad wine Re: Our Kitome Glenbrook - We've Moved In! 116Aug 13, 2009 9:24 pm hello there! I have just read about your new home! WELL DONE. i would really love your advice on the cost... ? My husband and i were thinking about renos costing over hundred grand but weighing up its its worthwhile between selling house/relocating it and buildKitome 'Glenbrook'. We would prob owner build and we personally know builders, plumbers, plasterer and My husband manages electrical company.Basically do you think its all worth it?? And do you think stages 1,2,3 are all what you paid for and benifical? (aposed to buying elswhere) A basic idea of price and time frame would really help me sleep at night, as i feel so torn!! THANKYOU ANYBODY???? Re: Our Kitome Glenbrook - We've Moved In! 117Jan 20, 2010 12:19 pm Hi peka4444, haven't been on here in a while so missed your reply. From our experience the cost for us to owner build made a lot of sense. We did the majority of things ourselves so saved a bunch of dollars. If you have access to friends with skills then you will be laughing too (as long as they're prepared to help you I guess). I couldn't have done what I did without the help of my father-in-law and my dad. The stages 1 and 2 that we paid for were definitely beneficial to us. Al the framework for the floor, house and the fitting out was included and so were plans. Stage 3 comes down to personnel choice. We preferred to spend a bit more on bathrooms and kitchens that we liked. That's about all I can offer. Owner building worked out really well for us cause of the home/work situation and we spent plenty of time down here and got it knocked over relatively quickly. Trouble is we keep adding things to this list The mower is getting a good workout keeping the grass down. 3 weeks is the maximum you want to leave it, otherwise it becomes a struggle. Moved plenty of dirt with shovels and a wheel barrow on a 40 degree weekend. Not the smartest move. But its starting to take shape now. Then we need to get the garage underway. That's the next major construction project. All fun and games down this way still Cheers, Pete viewtopic.php?f=38&t=8824 Re: Our Kitome Glenbrook - We've Moved In! 119Jan 21, 2010 10:24 am We also got some blinds put in the dining/family room. We thought we had till late January so one of the windows wasn't even painted. They rang and said can we come over tomorrow and stick them up. We had a late night to finish the window off. All good in the end.
