Browse Forums Owner Builder Forum 1 May 16, 2017 2:09 pm Hi . Long time lurker first time poster. I have planning approval nearly ready with boroondarah council, in melbourne. Can anyone recommend a good registered draftsman to do working drawings required for the building permit please ? I am an owner builder. It is a 2 storey rear extension onto a single fronted house. 12m long x 7 wide approx. I can see lots advertised online offering plans etc, but would prefer somebody who has used the company or individual. I am not chasing the cheapest quote, but somebody who is experienced and gets the details right. thanks marc Re: working drawings recommendation. Building melbourne. 2May 17, 2017 9:02 am marc welcome to the forum if I may also recommend that the drafting person uses 3D Bim Modelling Software Here's why 1. Most Draftsman use BIM for Coloured renderings only..insist on a full design & Data service ie. Model, data, quants, engineering, simulations-> if required 2. The 3D is great for Visualizing Complex details including engineering 3. If done properly you should be able to extract elemental quantities, m,m2,m3 etc 4. The model info & Details is also viewable on site via mobile devices 5. BIMs perfect for DIY & Owner builders as it simplifies complex designs & Processes 6. Building Information Model (BIM) allows for quick accurate changes and updates to all data 7. As an engineer I've used BIM for simulation, proofs & Optimising designs on mega projects thru to DIY renos Unfortunately most designers don't use it to its fullest potential 8.9. etc I did a series on LOFTS on workshop Apologies if it sounds like an advert..IMHO it will save you a lot of hassles later on OT what I see on forums & on Social Media are images or photos the relevant Data, Compliance, instructions are always missing, not visible, or difficult to understand, etc BIM ties it all together where it matters on site, as the work is being done..if you get the gist more examples to follow Designer,Engineer (Civil,Const & Envir),Builder,Concrete & Masonry Contract.Struct Repairs Thanks very much! And would the landscaper/contractor generally involve the engineer or is that something the client would do?
