We are hoping to buy a block in Somerset (Villeneuve) and OB a shed style home.
Hubs has the skills and connections to do the full interior and glazing, and we want to use a steel frame shed kit for the structure. The bit we don't know is where to start.
How do we find out if shed home are allowed? I've emailed the local council, asking if they can point me in the right direction.
Where do I find out about water options, as town water/waste isn't available?
Who do we employ for planning and permission, is that an architects job? A surveyor? Are we better to get a builder for the first part, until we're at the point that we can just take over?
We're hoping to pull this off for minimal cost. We don't want to spend the crazy money on a cookie cutter, knowing we'll more than likely be unsatisfied with the end result. We want to move so that we can live mostly off grid, reduce costs as much as possible and finally breathe a little easier. We've probably bitten off way more than we can chew, but if we can pull this off, we'll be living our dream at last.
Any resources you guys have on cheap builds, any experience you can share or any warnings would be super appreciated!
