Hi, I'm building a granny flat in melbourne as an owner builder, just wondering if I need to ask for domestic building contract from an unregistered builder for carpentry work only? (was recommended through my architect)
Cheers

I assumed you already have your planning permit, ob certificate etc.. If only carpentry work that is required, they still need to be registered for carpentry work. I'm not sure if there is any change now since it is in a transition period, but normally they should carry a DB-L registration card. It will list out what service can be carried out. With that, you can enter a normal domestic building contract. And don't forget they need to carry domestic building insurance if the work exceeds $12,000 in value and I assume you have insurance covered as well. Also note that the owner-builder needs an insurance policy for the project as a separate issue. Don't forget to put that in place.
