I think before you start thinking about choosing trades, you need to make sure you have clear understanding of your plan and your requirements. If you are precise with your needs, you usually can get good deals. Another thing is plan ahead carefully. Good planning is what you need for ob. Even thou mine is starting next year, I have been aligning everything in terms of materials. As far as choosing tradies, it is really a test of luck. Word of mouth is the best you can get. Tradies that can show you previous jobs would be a good start. Also, if you use specific materials, asking for recommendation from your supplier is another path, those usually aren't the cheapest you can get but most of the time you do get reasonable quality out of them.
