Browse Forums Owner Builder Forum 1 Jun 18, 2016 10:16 pm We have been told by our council that we need to have 7 metres from the road up our driveway finished with BITUMEN. 2 years has passed since our initial paperwork and now they are telling us to get it done, even though we haven't finished building the house yet. They quoted us $2,300 and we are wondering if we should get someone else to do it (if it would work out cheaper) or whether we would be able to do it ourselves. I have heard of spray-on bitumen but I am not sure if it would meet council standards. I am not sure if the council would be ok with concrete, as their paperwork is confusing. I would love to hear from anyone who has had experience with this sort of thing. As I live in a rural area it is difficult to find tradies, and I don't even know what to look under. Google is no help in this situation unfortunately! Have you installed your own bitumen driveway? Was it difficult? Did you pay someone to come and install a bitumen driveway? How much did it cost? An extra difficulty for us is that we don't have transport, so can't just pop out to the shops to buy materials or equipment. Any advice appreciated, thanks! Re: Bitumen Driveway 2Jun 19, 2016 9:42 am Do they want asphalt or bitumen, if its the later then I don't see why the spray wouldn't be antiquate, how ever you may not like it (its just a gravel type layer sprayed with bitumen to make it stick in an area. Asphalt is what you see on the roads (heated rolled bitumen mix) $2300 is similar pricing to what I have looked into up here in QLD, you may be able to get it cheaper if you do the prep work (if they'll let you) as the majority of the cost is the prep layers for asphalt To my understanding early saw cuts are to control shrinkage cracks, so doing them now would be pointless. Control joints may reduce ugly cracking during periods of soil… 3 9829 Hi all I need a guidance on how far I need to space expansion joints in the concrete driveway and its type (keyway/foam.) Contraction joints are at 3m max for a 125 slab. Thanks 0 10926 |
