Will oil it once it's ready. I'm 180cm and I look small next to it. Fast forwarded + photo heavy 63Feb 11, 2016 9:53 am Haji gandn Really nice! What's the reason they are installing the kitchen cabinetry before the gyprock on that wall? Glad you figured out that "raves" was 'eaves." Sorry about that. I dont think i can even blame ridiculous spell correcting software for that one! The cabinet maker hadn't taken into consideration the plaster which would have put off his calculations as there's some fine detail with the cabinets. Since he had already cut the panels and sent them off to painting, he told me not to put the plaster on as all the cabinets have a back panel anyhow, and he'll place plaster himself where the oven opening is since he needs to cover that one. makes sense Kitchen and pantry installation is almost finished, same with laundry. I must say it looks absolutely fantastic, just as I had done the sketch. I don't want to post progress photos as it's the heart of the house and will do injustice to it. I am reserving final shots until benchtops, appliances, sink and rest are all in so you guys will just have to hang in there Not fair! I love photos but totally understand. Love the front door. It's gorgeous!! Re: OB in Hume area - VIC. Fast forwarded + photo heavy 64Feb 11, 2016 11:56 am Re: OB in Hume area - VIC. Fast forwarded + photo heavy 67Feb 13, 2016 12:02 am JB1 I prefer the 60mm battern. What material is going behind it? painted plaster? Great door, do you mind me asking how much was it? I got quoted $2.5k for a 1200 x 2700 Vic Ash door & frame. The door is need to be hinged. We will paint the plaster charcoal and lay battens (also painted charcoal) going horizontally across the wall so we can fix the battens on top of those. This way we create some shadows and allow the timber to breathe as it is meant for screening. Our door was around the $4k mark, it's a little wider than yours with pivot system and the glass section is also double glazed. I wasn't too keen on vic ash and he told me I can source my own timber and he can make it out of that. We had ordered some blackbutt wall cladding in a sawn finish for both internally and externally from a timber yard so we may end up doing the door out of that which will tie in nicer, rather than introducing another timber species. Your price seems pretty good. Who was it from? = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = Custom owner build in Hume - VIC - Tiling Stage http://goo.gl/qpPglB Re: OB in Hume area - VIC. Fast forwarded + photo heavy 68Feb 13, 2016 4:01 pm My quote was with double glazing in any pattern. Vic Ash Windows in Clayton. Peter (owner) also said I can source my own timber. I went in there primarily to get a quote on double glazed timber bi-folds doors. I'm getting my bi folds made 2700mm high but they will measure it once the frame is up. Vic Ash is a little plain, but cost effective. Spotted Gum will increase the price significantly (and also will be much heavier). How thick are the batterns you using? 18mm or thinner? If you're referring to the battens in the bathrooms, they're actually around 30mm, quite chunky. As for the front door, spoke to the door maker and timber supplier, both said 12mm thick timber in tongue and groove will be fine if I wanted to use my own. So we're changing from vic ash to blackbutt with a sawn finish to match the dining wall and outside wall near the pool. Door maker will reduce price by around $500 but I will need to pay $900 for the blackbutt. = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = Custom owner build in Hume - VIC - Tiling Stage http://goo.gl/qpPglB Re: OB in Hume area - VIC. Fast forwarded + photo heavy 70Feb 17, 2016 8:12 pm Haji Recently I was browsing gumtree to see what the going rate was for alucobond installation as the front part of the house will feature some and was pondering of covering the pool side parapet walls as well but was afraid from the price. My guy had quoted $260 per sqm including all materials, which is still a bit lower than market price. He had mentioned that a 4m x 1.5m sheet cost around $450 mark. I then saw a listing advertising 11 alucobond sheets in those sizes for $1500! Gave him a call first thing in the morning. Turns out he is a builder who builds contemporary/modern houses in the richer suburbs of Melbourne and had them left over from a job. The manufacturers wouldn't give him credit back apparently as some of the peeling had come off so they couldn't sell it. So I went and inspected them and apart from a couple of minor light scratches, they are perfectly fine. And most of all they are the exact colour we were after (Anthracite Grey) Prior to inspecting, I thought let me offer him $1200 and see what he says, so I started with $1000 to which he said if that's the best you can do it's fine with me That's $90 per panel so I saved a total of around $3500 - $4000 in material. Installer is happy to use them since he gets them from the same place. We calculated that we needed around 55sqm worth for the pool side with allowance for offcuts, and the total sqm I bought is 69. With the leftovers we can use at the front as much as we can so a bit of saving there as well. 2 birds with 1 stone The blue covered areas + the eves outside the sliding doors will all be covered in alucobond. I came to our site today to unfortunately realise that some loser has stolen 11 sheets of the alucobond I had brought to site last week. Each sheet measures 4m x 1.5m so they must have come prepared. In hindsight I shouldn't have stacked them against the back fence but didn't think anyone would be able to steal sheets so large. Lesson learnt but unfortunately there's not much I can do. Rang the local police, posted on FB, let some tradies know but I don't have much hope of seeing them again. I had gotten these for a bargain but they're worth $4k, but this now means I can't afford to clad the pool side with alucobond and will have to settle for render. = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = Custom owner build in Hume - VIC - Tiling Stage http://goo.gl/qpPglB Re: OB in Hume area - VIC. Already enquired, excess is something like $850 and they would only reimburse what I paid which was $1000, and may take 6 weeks so definitely not worth the hassle. Just need to swallow and move on sadly. = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = Custom owner build in Hume - VIC - Tiling Stage http://goo.gl/qpPglB Re: OB in Hume area - VIC. Saved around $5k. twin_dad Scum of the earth is all I can offer about the stealing of the panels. I was petrified someone was going to strip the cables before the gyprock went on at ours. One of my neighbours on the other end of the court had his cables stolen when he was building last year, he even found the guy and confronted him who was a junky, notified the cops but not much eventuated. I think at one stage he hired security to mind the house towards the end of the build. Another friend told me that while they were working on a site a couple of guys came and said they were sent to pickup something, so my mates just made up a name and said did Franky send you? to which they said yes, so my friends told them to F off before they call the cops. = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = Custom owner build in Hume - VIC - Tiling Stage http://goo.gl/qpPglB Re: OB in Hume area - VIC. Haven't decided how to close it off yet but not rushing at this stage. We wanted the side of the wall to block off the vision coming from the side of the house, then opening up to the alfresco area.
