First of all the Seven Stars refers to the energy efficiency rating that has been calculated for this house design. I am quite proud of this rating achievement and that this was achieved without the detailed energy saving touches that I plan for later in the build.
I had planned this house to be a low cost, low energy, and owner buildable project.
So, I holidayed in Bali, to study their Architecture. It was instructional for me to observe the way that the Balinese used the thermal mass of concrete together with the cooling power of water in contact with the concrete slab. I have also read some books on the subject of Green architecture and Green from the Ground by Johnston and Gibson is one I recommend, although it is written for Northern American winters and not Brisbane summers. I have used quite a lot of concrete in the floor slab and the upstairs floor is Hebel aerated concrete floor panels and this choice contributes to achieving the 7 star energy rating.
The steel frame design shown here is my adaptation of the Duragal Framing system. I had chosen to eliminate the screw height adjustment as I used a laser plane to measure the concrete floor levels at the post positions and the height adjustments necessary for each post. As a result of choosing a steel fabricator that has difficulties using a tape measure I still had to place steel packers on the majority of the posts.
The steel posts even at 3.4 meter heights are easy to manage and I can place the posts on the prepared chemset anchor studs by myself. The Bearers are quite heavy but with an extention piece I fabricated for a car engine hoist it was relatively easy to lift and place the bearers. The steel joists are relatively light and I was lucky to have a particularly tall friend around to lift one end over the bearers whilst I slid the joists into position.
All the steel for the downstairs framework is now in place and ready to be welded. There's light rain here in Brisbane today so the welding will have to wait for another day. Once the welding is completed and the steel is painted I can lay the Hebel floor panels. Nope. I can see your originals but to make it easier use photobucket ( if you can't get flickr to do it ) and just copy the IMG tags so they appear here rather than us having to go to a third party site.
Good progress by the way.

Here I go with photobucket. Let me know how this works, I will have a heap more photos to load over the next few months. By the way, the 3D cad model was done on Alibre (now GeoMagic) as I had the software and was comfortable using it. I employed an Architect to redraw the house using Autodesk Revit (unfortunately my Alibre model could not be directly uploaded to Revit)and I will be sharing those plans here as well.

The photos show up now. Nice spot.
With regard to exporting your plans, you could have saved them as a 2D dwg or dxf and your architect could have imported those into Revit. You would have lost any 3D data though.

I have attached some pages from the plans drawn by the architect. Martyn, of Bay Island Design did an excellent job in drawing the plans and in taking me through the Council Planning as well as Development applications. Also attached are some plans extracted from Cabinet Planner. I came across Cabinet Planner when I was planning the kitchen layout. That program not only lets you visualise the kitchen in 3D, it also lets you print out a full cut list of all the timber for the cabinets. As a bonus, for me anyhow, the software generates dxf files that you can send to your CNC Router table (which I just happen to have in my shed - a homebuilt MechMate). Great value from a program that costs $100, if you look at the website for CP you will see that many professional cabinet makers in America use CP to build Kitchens and for other cabinet work.

Hebel floor is now half done. Not at all difficult to lay and well worth any extra effort over chipboard flooring in my opinion. I also took a pic of my owner-builder sign that I had carved on the Mech-Mate Router table.

I have included here the cost of the build. There are many more things to pay for but I estimate that all up the building will cost less than $80,000 upon completion, great value for a quality home that also offers massive workshop space. I have also attached a photo of the ACQ Hardwood sleepers that I used as decking, Well pleased with these and at $21 for a 200mm x 50mm x 3.0m stick, it is significantly cheaper than the 19mm decking boards that I would have otherwise used, the second photo is of the upstairs steel frame. The rest of the house framing and roof trusses are all timber.

I plan on using AES septic system.
Hebel floor area is 81m2 (9m x 9m) and the price includes the hebel adhesive, screws, maxbond and the trowel. Peachester Timber was my supplier.
I'm putting up the roof trusses at the moment, 4 to go, and will take some pics soon. I ordered the roof sheets two weeks ago and was pleasantly surprised by the relatively low price of $3164 for the main roof sheets (26 sheets x 5.4m length x 762mm cover, Colorbond Custom orb), battens, facia, gutter,insulation, etc, all from Roofingonline.

Thermal and acoustic qualities were considered. Another is that Hebel is completely water and weather resistant and I can slowly work on the framing upstairs without worrying about the floor rotting away.

Long time absent from the forum. The house build has hit a major hurdle in the form of two former Redland City Council Building Inspectors. One being the Private Building Certifier that I engaged to carry out the floor slab inspection, the first of these inspections being in February 2015 and the last inspection in April 2015. I was told that the certificates for the inspection were to be mailed to me, two weeks later that they had been sent,a week later that he will follow up with his secretary. After three months of this bull and no certificates I lodged a complaint with the QBCC and that is when I went against the second former Redland City Inspector ( I did not discover until recently that both the Certifier I was complaining about and the person that I was complaining to worked together at Redland Council). The result of all this is that I had to endure a three year legal and bureaucratic nightmare with the full resources of State and Local Government pitched against me. Perhaps predictably, I lost that battle. I have attached a photo of the building as it was in January 2016 when I was forced to stop further work when it became clear the no certificate will be issued for the slab and that no local certifier will inspect the frame. I have recently commenced to model the building in Sketchup so I can enjoy some virtual building experiences without the QBCC's interference,

We have selected the same size bench with 80 mm thick stone wrap. I love the large island bench. They look amazing. It’s prob one of my favourite choices in our build
