Browse Forums Owner Builder Forum 1 Jun 17, 2015 4:47 pm Hi everyone, My partner and I are looking at purchasing land north of Melbourne and as we are first home buyers we are looking at vacant land to take full advantage of the FHOG. We are looking to buy private land rather then in an estate as we are after a larger block. My father is a builder in New Zealand and has offered to shift over and build the house. Does anyone know if we would still be eligible for the grant as long as he wrote up a building contract etc? Also, if we were to construct the house would he/I need to get any certificates or as long as the plans are approved and a building inspector signs off on it is that all that is required? My apologies if these questions seem silly, I'm just struggling to find any info and was hoping you good folks may be able to help out Thanks Sam Re: First Home owner OB 2Jun 19, 2015 5:07 pm I can't help with the FHOG infor but I'm sure others on this forum would be able to help. As an OB you would need to take out the licence under your name but you still need to get the certificates for who does things like termite proofing, electrical, plumbing etc which your father wouldn't be licenced to do. In NSW an OB also can't do the waterproofing or roofing themselves either but I'm unsure whether this applies to other states.
