Browse Forums Owner Builder Forum 1 Mar 20, 2015 9:03 pm Hi All, I'm about to get my guttering done, and was wondering what people recommend for fascia. Are colorbond fascia better than timber? I guess the maintenance is much, much, better. The fascia is close to the wet gutters, so will likely rot if made of timber and not maintained. Is there much difference in terms of aesthetics for timber vs colorbond fascia? Anyone got an opinion. Also, was looking at these gables, and was wondering how to construct the features shown in the photo below, and what material the gable fascia is. I'm assuming it is colorbond, too. http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h228/akapacker/Gables_zpsb0mjsf5c.jpg This is from the Stratco website http://stratco.com.au/about/about/commu ... ture-home/ Thanks for your help Cheers David Re: Gutters, Fascia and Gables 2Mar 20, 2015 9:10 pm Hey, here is a good website that explains a few things: http://www.stormclad.co.uk/blog/soffits-fascias-and-guttering-explained/ I was wondering about straightening of the rafter feet for the fascia. Do we use sprockets here in Oz? Cheers David Re: Gutters, Fascia and Gables 3Mar 21, 2015 3:31 pm Sprockets are used here in OZ, but judging by your link the purpose of them is much different in the UK. Firstly you won't find PVC products in use here for soffit lining or fascias. We also don't call it rafter feet, it's just the tail of the truss. If timber fascia is used the rafters and trusses are ordered or specified as 50mm longer than required so they can be trimmed to a string line as required, then the timber fascia simply nailed directly onto the end of the rafter tails. If metal fascia is used they use brackets which screw to the side of the tails for the metal fascia to clip onto. A bracket it set in the correct position at either end, then string lines run between to aid alignment of the intermediate brackets. The only time now days people use timber is if matching in on a renovation Re: Gutters, Fascia and Gables 4Mar 22, 2015 10:09 pm Hi 33amc, THANKS! That is exactly what I wanted to know. I won't be using timber fascia, since I don't want to do the maintenance. And with the brackets, then I don't need to straighten the rafter tails. The gutter guy can get to work. I'll double check with him though. Thanks once again for the concise answer. Thanks David Hi all, We are considering Enigma 46 from Mojo Homes in Gables, NSW. Has anyone built with Mojo and any pointers and feedback. Also, if anyone has built similar design… 0 9717 I recently went through a similar renovation and move scenario when updating our family home. We also swapped some rooms around and tackled a major… 2 3675 nothing to do with salespeole. you'd do well to read and ccomprehend the post before bashing away at the keys with some negative comment again. 4 5044 |
