Browse Forums Owner Builder Forum 1 Jan 21, 2015 12:03 am Neighbour built a brick wall for a verandah 3.6 mts high ( internal gutter)right up against our back fence line. Our fence is still up but the finish on the brick work is terrible. He bricked it from his side and the brick work has mortar spaces of approx 5cm in some places and no mortar spaces in some areas just brick against brick?The horizontal brick lines are all over the place. The neighbour said if I don't like it I would have to pay for half the render of the wall. Does anyone know the brick mortar rules in vic? Also our fence between his new verandah is between our shed so this can no longer be replaced so can we get the fence changed so railings are on his side and palings on ours even though we will lose land space of the post. Re: Owner builder neighbour 3Jan 21, 2015 6:07 pm Firstly 3.6m is too high. In most circumstances 3.0 is all you can have on a boundary maximum. I presume he has a permit??? If so ring the surveyor and have a friendly chat. If he hasn't got it advertised (probably not) then ring your friendly council surveyor in the building department and I'm sure he'd be happy to listen. If you don't get joy from that, then it's time to start putting things in writing. No advertising required they said or notification to us. We are now unable to replace the fence between our shed and his brick wall and the owner said if I don't like it pull down my shed. He has to build it a certain distance from the fence line - in many states a wall is not a fence. He also has to get approval over a certain height ... I thought this was a metre or less ? Document the problem, take photographs and I'd also seek advice from your states building authority on the subject as well.
