This one hit the upper roof and gutter. Gutter will need to be replaced OB Project - "New vs Old" - Nedlands, WA 203Apr 17, 2016 11:00 pm Let's start to talk finishes..... The fixtures and fittings of our house are going to be a combination of aged brass, black and white. I think the combination works really well together. Starting off with the original house we will be reusing the original Art Deco style brass handles. We have had them ebanoled. It cost us $10 each. See handle for new section but in aged brass. All I seem to be doing these days is painting. I've put three coats of protection in preparation for onsite installation. They will get fabricated onsite as each window will weight about 300kg without glazing. Once installed I will apply 2 more coats. - it's never ending! Not really sure how it's normally done but I've designed mine as follows. The internal sections will all the painted Matt black. I'll paint them over the weekend before the ceilings start on Tuesday. My track is an L shape and is just over 4m in each direction. Starting to look like our home. I'm really pleased with our track recess. It's turning out exactly as I'd imagined. I have painted it with two coats of acrylic matt black. I've had to guide our ceiling guys through it as they found my request slightly odd initially but they have done a great job. mm perfect!! He asked me how exact it needs to be and I gave my usual "within half a mm is ok" answer. Their product lineup is very complete. - next house In this case I wanted to not be able to see the vertical section of the recess to give more of a dark void look. I set the sides in about 30mm. Once we started building we realised we could have an extra room for very little cost. Couldn't have any windows so went with two openable velux skylight/windows. - the reveals are still to be done. Re: OB Project - "New vs Old" - Nedlands, WA 212Apr 27, 2016 2:16 pm Great thing about owner build is seeing something whilst it's still a work in progress and being able to change it for functionality or aesthetics. We have changed sooo much from original. Biggest was adding a whole extra walk in robe, and not a small one mind you. Got rid of wasted space, made the room more symmetrical and serves a purpose! Build thread: viewtopic.php?f=38&t=75302 Re: OB Project - "New vs Old" - Nedlands, WA 213Apr 27, 2016 2:21 pm Agreed! Total control! We too have made so many changes. Re: OB Project - "New vs Old" - Nedlands, WA 215Apr 29, 2016 8:32 pm Would love to know what kind of insulation you chose, and why? Also, what your internal wall diameter is - our walls are going to be something like 9cm so not much room to play with... OB Project - "New vs Old" - Nedlands, WA 216Apr 29, 2016 9:30 pm Hey Keffuful, we chose the Bradford gold for external wall. Our walls provide 14cm cavity so we went with two 70mm batts to give 140mm. Ended up with R4.4 Ceilings we are R4.0 And interval walls we are R3.3 soundscreen. Re: OB Project - "New vs Old" - Nedlands, WA 220May 05, 2016 6:14 pm Some more progress. Really happy with the way the reveals on the the openable windows turned out.
