With your upper level bathrooms did they waterproof, screed - sand and cement, then re-waterproof? viewtopic.php?f=31&t=75739&p=1299716#p1299716 Re: OB Project - "New vs Old" - Nedlands, WA 242Jun 20, 2016 8:49 pm Yes they did but the first layer was a different product to the typical waterproofing I'd seen. I also siliconed all the corners etc OB Project - "New vs Old" - Nedlands, WA 243Jun 22, 2016 11:23 pm Our scaffolding is finally out!! Today has been by far the happiest day onsite for me. I finally got to see how our house was going to look without all that steel in the way. Here is a awkward picture of the space from ground floor. Re: OB Project - "New vs Old" - Nedlands, WA 244Jun 29, 2016 11:37 pm Preparing the original bathroom for tiling. The walls are pretty sketchy as expected. Seems like they ran out out cement on my house!! I'll be pointing all the loose bricks before the plasterers start their work. Rather than remove the original window I'll be boarding it up instead. My tilers have agreed to pour the slab and the plumber will place the underfloor heating. This bathroom will become our guest bathroom. We have also included a new skylight over the location of the new shower. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Installed timber into the brickwork in preparation for my lower level steel doors. My steel fabricator is well behind schedule. I'm running out of patience. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ OB Project - "New vs Old" - Nedlands, WA 245Jul 03, 2016 6:28 pm Let's talk paints.
I've started with the help of my brother in law to paint the upper floor bedrooms. We will only be painting the walls. We have contracted painters to paint our ceilings and timber frames. I hate painting ceilings. We chose Dulux Lexicon in quarter strength for all walls and ceilings. For walls I have used Dulux wash and wear in Matt. The corner window in my daughters bedroom looks great. Especially with the negative detail. I'm jealous of her view. Though she's still too short to see out Here are the progress pics. Lots little details to fix up. Yes corner windows are my favourite! I have one in my room too. viewtopic.php?f=31&t=75739&p=1299716#p1299716 OB Project - "New vs Old" - Nedlands, WA 247Jul 03, 2016 9:14 pm We will have no architraves anywhere in the new section of the house. Makes it hard to get right but I like the minimal look. Not recommended if you have messy little kids which we have 2 of. Re: OB Project - "New vs Old" - Nedlands, WA 248Jul 04, 2016 8:17 pm 6 weeks in the making!! Our ensuite window/skylight has finally been installed. The skylight stretches over our shower and bath. Definitely the smallest Louvres I've ever seen but I think it's going to look perfect. It's a great feeling having all the little "bits" that id visualized come to reality. I just realized ours are plastic! Which isn't good cos those windows of mine are west facing! viewtopic.php?f=31&t=75739&p=1299716#p1299716 Re: OB Project - "New vs Old" - Nedlands, WA 250Jul 04, 2016 9:54 pm Ours are plastic too. Haven't seen any lately made of metal. Our previous house was also plastic and north facing. Had no problems. Re: OB Project - "New vs Old" - Nedlands, WA 251Jul 04, 2016 10:52 pm Thanks for the reassurance. We have floor boards installed this week! What you decide on your flooring? viewtopic.php?f=31&t=75739&p=1299716#p1299716 Re: OB Project - "New vs Old" - Nedlands, WA 252Jul 05, 2016 3:50 am Awesome!! Must be glad to start getting rid of the concrete. We are polishing the slab in most areas except bedrooms which we have gone with carpet. Our upper floor is also carpet. The original house will be kept as original jarrah but I intend to stain black. We plan to start polishing in about 3 weeks. Our real dilemma is our steel doors. They are not close to being ready so I'm stuck. Either stop progress till lock up or keep going and board up missing doors and hope for the best I'll be boarding up as I can't bear to stop progress. Btw I love your lighting choices!! Re: OB Project - "New vs Old" - Nedlands, WA 253Jul 05, 2016 9:26 pm We did the latter, boarded up, since the builder wants all all flooring (down stairs tiling and up stairs timber flooring) to be installed before he does the doors and architraves. viewtopic.php?f=31&t=75739&p=1299716#p1299716 Re: OB Project - "New vs Old" - Nedlands, WA 254Jul 07, 2016 9:09 pm Today was another crazy packed day onsite. My trades were causing chaos with street parking - I was secretly loving it! My tilers started waterproofing over the screed and my tiles arrived. All 200m2 of it! They will officially start tiling on Monday. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Also my external blind systems were finished off and tested. Go go go then nothing then go go go. Definitely no architect. Don't work in the building industry at all. Re: OB Project - "New vs Old" - Nedlands, WA 257Jul 10, 2016 1:09 am I have been puzzled as to how to achieve a negative detail (shadow line) around our doors in the bathrooms. I couldn't find any ready made trims. I've come up with this. It comprises of a tilers end trim glued to a 3mm flat bar. There might have been easier ways but I couldn't think of any.
