Browse Forums Owner Builder Forum 1 Oct 14, 2014 8:58 am can anyone estimate a cost to connect power (underground) from boundary powerpole to house 70 meters ........i dont own the land yet, considering costs, so bit reluctant to seek quotes from electricians at this point thanks Re: electricity connection costs 2Oct 14, 2014 9:50 am It cost me $3000 from my regular sparky to hook up my new home that was 95m from the 'magic mushroom' at the front fence. He used 35 sq mm 3 phase aluminium cable, that he paralled to give us single phase and in effect 70 sq mm cable to give us full power up at the house, i.e. a pair for neutral, a pair for active. I did get other quotes that went all the way up to in excess of $6000 for copper wire being used. Prices will vary. Options you may want to consider is just leaving the meters down on your front fence, but that means if you want off peak tariff, you have to run a second line up to the house. If you will be on Time of Use tariffs, then you won't need that extra cabling for off peak, because it doesn't exist as a separate tariff. Owner Building at Jimboomba Woods in Logan City Qld. Re: electricity connection costs 5Oct 14, 2014 11:28 am thanks for the info beetaloo Beetaloo It cost me about $4,500 for 150 metres 2 phase using 3x16mm2 copper plus Utility charges. Do you get much voltage drop when you're sucking a bit of power ? Owner Building at Jimboomba Woods in Logan City Qld. Re: electricity connection costs 7Oct 14, 2014 6:23 pm Quote: That's an awful long run for 16 sq mm cable I only have 30 amps/phase available not the 60 or 80 amps that one normally gets in suburbia. It is actually a single phase supply with a centre tapping so I get 2 phases 180 degrees apart. In theory the neutral currents cancel out except for some minor imbalance. This reduces the voltage drop, hence the 16mm2 cable not a larger cable. If one needs 60 or 80 amps, then larger 35mm2 cables would be required with a proportional increase in cost. The supply is not yet connected as I am waiting for a polyphase meter. Re: electricity connection costs 8Oct 15, 2014 12:20 pm My 40m run cost $1700. this included bobcat to cut the trench, installation of switchboard to house (which already had all wiring in place in the frame), and connection of the underground line from property pole to switchboard. Overall, its not a huge cost or complex if your soil can be easily dug up. IT is pointless to go overhead - no money saved that way. 3 48361 Hi all I'm currently building a duplex in Sydney and we need to do a new water connection to the second unit. The water main is on the other side of the road so we need… 0 4265 I am not sure whether Perth has its own way of doing things in regards to this. Most of Perth has class A (sandy soil), except for some areas near rivers or hills. 2 13098 |
