Browse Forums Owner Builder Forum 1 Aug 13, 2014 1:01 pm Hi everyone! My wife and I are looking forward to start an owner builder project in Barossa, SA. I plan to buy and build a kit home as an owner builder - reasonably small home, one bedroom, one bathroom. In SA there are no requirements for having an owner builder license but we have to have a registered building work supervisor to oversee the project and eventually to sign Statement of Compliance. Could anyone give me some idea how much that kind of service should cost? Can you recommend anyone in Barossa area (we are in Eden Valley). Thanks a lot. Tim Re: Registered building supervisor for owner builder project 3Aug 13, 2014 3:55 pm An official title, as I understand, is a registered building work supervisor. This title appears in different documents related to owner builders projects. Below is a quote from a council letter: "At the completion of any building work involving a dwelling or dwelling addition (Class 1a building), a Statement of Compliance must be provided to the relevant authority to enable the building to be occupied. The South Australian Development Act and Regulations 1993, Regulations 83AB requires the statement to be signed by the licensed building work contractor, (i.e. the licensed builder) or if there is no such licensed building work contractor - a registered building work supervisor. The statement must also signed by the owner of the relevant land, or by someone acting on their behalf. We are await details of your registered building works supervisor, that will be carrying out these duties."
