Browse Forums Owner Builder Forum 1 Jul 28, 2014 8:03 pm Gday all, Just a quick question, our water proofing is coming in prior to gyprock.. Council states that critical stage inspection "prior to covering any wet areas", now does that mean Council come in before gyprocking? or do they come in once the vilaboard is on and the water proofer returns to fibre glass the villaboard? I'll be ringing the council tomorrow to get some advice.. Re: Critical stage inspection **Water proofing** Council 2Jul 28, 2014 8:08 pm why are you waterproofing before gyprock? a, your wetseal should be between the villa and the floor b, you leave your shower trays open for damage by the plasterers. Im not sure what the council would be inspecting, I assume the frame and plumbing are done. Re: Critical stage inspection **Water proofing** Council 3Jul 28, 2014 9:16 pm hey mgilla, that's what I was told by my gyprocker that usually water proofing is done after gyprocking.. but our water proofer has said he comes in before gyprock.. Not sure the reasoning, I agree with you as i've thought about the shower trays being damaged/stepped upon etc.. ta Re: Critical stage inspection **Water proofing** Council 6Jul 29, 2014 8:41 pm gav its not something ive ever seen, what kind of wall is it going on. I would have thought unless the sheets are stuck to the wall any fixings will compromise the membrane. Re: Critical stage inspection **Water proofing** Council 9Jul 30, 2014 11:26 am A structural waterproofing "membrane's" job is to prevent water ingress to the substrate of the house. It seals the floor and partially up the wall so that water cannot run anywhere and stays on the upside of the membrane. What sort of floor do you have? On a wooden bearer/joist floor, the bare floor and wall is sealed with membrane integral with a floor waste exit. The whole thing forms an impenetrable layer that theoretically exits to the waste outlet. This is regulated in some states, and so may require signoff from a licensed sealer. Otherwise if you are getting an inspector to sight it for sign off, he will have to see the actual membrane. after inspection, then your villaboard, tiles etc go over the membrane. Yes the villa board gets coated again with a different type of paint-on-by-brush waterproofing, and this is not regulated and you can do it yourself (in Qld anyway). Re: Critical stage inspection **Water proofing** Council 10Jul 30, 2014 12:30 pm The waterproofers may be using a similar material to this. I would guess this would go on under gyprock.. The gyprock may still get a coat of "normal" waterproofing. http://www.projex.com.au/installation-wolfin/ Settlement 1/2/12 New Shed 23/3/12 Slab poured 27/3/12 Frame complete 4/5/12 Roof complete 1/6/12 LOCKUP 29/6/12 Our new build blog http://kareenhillsownerbuild.blogspot.com/ Re: Critical stage inspection **Water proofing** Council 11Jul 31, 2014 2:20 pm Yeah, there are other made to order wet area membranes made from clear pvc that go in before your sheeting but I think that sort is in the minority. Like these "April" membranes http://www.aboutthehouse.com.au/switch/113-3113-2. Most are done as others above have described - after the sheeting and usually a painted on membrane. In NSW the certifiers or the council want to see that the membrane has been installed properly prior to tiling. Stewie thanks Chippy, i hope they have applied sealer but i am doubt to be honest, so i am gonna do this job after handover. 8 16221 It worked for me in getting all non notified rain days removed from the builders claim, although the LDs was only $50/day 7 5875 Scientists have used random matrix theory to demonstrate theoretically that the neutrino mass hierarchy can be explained mathematically.
