Once they become accustomed to you being around ( or vice versa ) they become a lot more blase knowing that you don't pose a threat to them. The plus side of course is that you wont have a rat or mouse problem with these guys around. The local lizard population tends to take a hit though. Only occasionally do I see a king brown (mulga snake) as I am near the southern limit of their habitat. I don't have a mouse problem any more, not since last year when a snake got inside the house and eradicated the mice for me. Re: Owner Build in Southern Flinders Ranges- Snakes 163Dec 09, 2015 11:08 am Hi Beetaloo We are building in the new year and are trying to find some info on fibre cement weatherboards. I think from memory you used one of the Hardie range? Any reason you didn't go with one of the other companies for the same product? Re: Owner Build in Southern Flinders Ranges- Weatherboard 164Dec 09, 2015 11:23 am I used the 16mm thick weatherboard as it looks more like traditional timber boards. The other weatherboard products that I looked at were thin, typically 6mm or 9mm. I visited a house display centre that had wall panels built with different types of wall finishes. I made my choice based on what I saw at this display. Re: Owner Build in Southern Flinders Ranges- Snakes 165Dec 09, 2015 11:31 am Thanks for the quick reply. That is the one we are currently looking at too. A neighbour of ours is using a similar product but different brand. Do you mind me asking what the general price is per sqm that you came across? Re: Owner Build in Southern Flinders Ranges- Weatherboards 167Dec 10, 2015 8:13 am Thanks for that. The 16mm boards do look stunning. I'm looking forward to how fast the weatherboards will go up compared to the bricks from our current house as well Owner Build in Southern Flinders Ranges- Bathroom 169Feb 18, 2016 6:25 pm Another minor photo update. Shower room is nearly finished, just need to install a shower screen (I tried but the glass is to heavy for me to lift on my own, I will wait until I have an unsuspecting visitor) Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Vanity unit in main bath room - again nearly finished. I am yet to install a mirror but why I would ever want to look at myself - I don't know.... It was made by a neighbour out of old corrugated iron. It was given to me as my house warming present. (I have already drunk most of the other house warming presents) The iron may have come out of a local farmers old shed. I better have a drive around the district to see if there is a hole in a shed in the shape of a kangaroo. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Oh the joys of building in the country. I never got a tin kangaroo when I built a house in the city. Re: Owner Build in Southern Flinders Ranges- Bathroom 172Mar 06, 2016 11:55 am Love your thread. Your wit, humour and ability always make me smile! Re: Owner Build in Southern Flinders Ranges- Bathroom 173Mar 06, 2016 1:37 pm That wasn't made by the same clown who does those Colorbond ads on TV was it? You know - the one that has the corrugated surfboard, dog kennel, kids slide etc. Stewie Re: Owner Build in Southern Flinders Ranges- Bathroom 175Apr 10, 2016 8:45 pm Quote: Shower room is nearly finished, just need to install a shower screen (I tried but the glass is to heavy for me to lift on my own, I will wait until I have an unsuspecting visitor) I have finally had a visitor, so while we were waiting for a freshly opened bottle of wine to breathe, we lifted the glass screen into position & I fixed it to the wall & floor. Re: Owner Build in Southern Flinders Ranges- Veranda 176May 02, 2016 9:45 pm After an absence of nearly 6 months I returned to my Country retreat this weekend to start work on the veranda. Not much to show for a weekend's work. The hardest part so far was digging the holes for the posts through rock. This was all jack hammer work. I struggled just to pick up the jack hammer. I look forward to the day someone invents a plastic & polystyrene jack hammer. I have only got 25% of the frame work up so far. I could do with another pair of hands or 2 or 3. Re: Owner Build in Southern Flinders Ranges- Veranda 178May 03, 2016 10:31 am [quote]Is it a trick of the light or is that white box halfway up the side of your house at a distinct angle? /quote] The rafter is at an angle which makes the shed appear to have a lean. Re: Owner Build in Southern Flinders Ranges- Veranda 180May 03, 2016 4:15 pm That is one of my fire hose reels. The box is the carton that the reel came in. The brick is to stop it blowing away. The carton is there to protect the hose from damage from direct sunlight. I painted the carton so that is would last a bit longer before it rots away. Congratulations! Nice to put that to bed before christmas, now you can relax 3 7182 We are in NSW and require 2 positive covenants to be placed on the property didnt really underdtand this but apparently it will take a few months, and have just been… 2 7473 0 5684 |
