Browse Forums Owner Builder Forum Re: Studio (fancy shed) build 241Feb 22, 2015 10:38 pm Just read this entire thread while looking for a way to build a small "custom shed" for gym/storage haha. Definitely the best build thread I've read so far, amazing how it's basically all natural/recycled materials! A small 3x4m wood cabin from a cabin building place is looking to cost me $14,000-16,000! You build an enormous studio for that price! Re: Studio (fancy shed) build 242Mar 12, 2015 11:39 pm For all the folks out there who have been following this build, we are having an open day at our studio on March 28th. So, if you're interested to see how it all turned out in real life, send me a PM for more details. Re: Studio (fancy shed) build 243Mar 21, 2015 9:28 pm Mudbrick production has started again. Colwyn ruined the first batch but now we have about 250 done already. http://i1054.photobucket.com/albums/s493/RuffTuff2/EcoStay%20mudbricks_zpswpmbsxsa.jpg This time they are for the ecostay. The studio was just a trial run! I guess I should start another thread for this next build. Re: Studio (fancy shed) build 244Mar 30, 2015 12:43 am We had our "official" opening on Saturday, complete with a ribbon cutting ceremony. About 50 people turned up, well beyond our expectations. http://i1054.photobucket.com/albums/s493/RuffTuff2/Opening_zpsyhcvhgwv.jpg The universal support and enthusiasm for the finished result was overwhelming. It's great to hear how other people see the fruits of our labours. We're so proud of our creation and the way it fits in with it's environment. A great place to create art! Re: Studio (fancy shed) build 246Apr 08, 2015 10:36 pm After our open day a few weeks back we realised we need more outdoor space. So today we marked out space for a deck at the front of the building. It will be 6m x 6m with one side curved. We then dug the retaining wall footings and made a good start on the stone retaining walls. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: Studio (fancy shed) build 248Apr 09, 2015 3:25 pm What? Don't you have a bath tub in your front yard too? I thought it was just normal! It's actually a wheelbarrow with mortar in it. Re: Studio (fancy shed) build 249Apr 09, 2015 5:30 pm Quote: It's actually a wheelbarrow with mortar in it. Thanks for the correction. Possibly I should get new glasses. I am now concerned about the quality of my tiling on my build. Re: Studio (fancy shed) build 250Apr 11, 2015 9:22 am The stone wall is finished and this morning we removed the formwork from the pole footings (stirrups) that will secure the timber posts and rails. Trawling through Gumtree right now! Re: Studio (fancy shed) build 251Apr 11, 2015 12:52 pm Gosh it's looking amazing, really wish I could have come along to your open day! Re: Studio (fancy shed) build 255Apr 22, 2015 4:02 pm What an amazing studio and outdoor area. I have a quick question...with the outdoor stone retaining wall, how deep did the footings go? Thanks Our Build Thread: The "Extended" Marina by Visionone Homes Our Inspirations: Frank Lloyd Wright | Houzz Re: Studio (fancy shed) build 256Apr 22, 2015 5:40 pm We dug the footings down to bedrock which was only a few hundred mm in most places. In some spots were the bedrock was deeper we just dug down to good solid fresh dirt. The stone walls are twice as wide at the base as they are high. Re: Studio (fancy shed) build 257May 09, 2015 8:47 pm Winter approaches and so we are now constructing a slow combustion fireplace for our heating needs. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Still lots of work to go. Not quite sure what the end product will look like as we are designing and building it from whatever materials we can scrounge from our junk pile. Re: Studio (fancy shed) build 258May 11, 2015 12:45 am Still more hours to go, but it is taking shape. Still got to find something to make the door and latch, flue fitting, damper and air inlet. The cost so far has just been welding consumables..... and time and effort. I would suggest you simply go and talk to council about your proposal, most councils are getting onboard with ancillary dwellings. There is no benefit in keeping it… 1 4346 Thanks. Unfortunately the shed wasn't designed for internal cladding but I have been framing it up as strongly as… 0 3599 |
