Build thread http://tinyurl.com/llgc7yk Re: Studio (fancy shed) build 82Aug 03, 2014 11:27 am Wow that is fantastic progress for one day! I am curious as to what material you used for the roof and for the ceiling, and whether you thought it was worthwhile to have it insulated? Re: Studio (fancy shed) build 83Aug 03, 2014 2:16 pm RuffTuff .... I am using EPS panels for the roof and I think many engineers are unfamiliar with the product and that has put them off. These panels don't need rafters or battens to support them but just go straight between the beams, with a span of over 4.5m. They also have an R rating of 2.63 for the panels I have chosen. If you factor in the cost of roofing, battens, rafters, insulation and ceiling, then they are a cost effective solution. These are the ones I am going to use. http://www.panelmakers.com.au/ecodeck.php Re: Studio (fancy shed) build 84Aug 04, 2014 8:51 am This is the first time I've used EPS panels and I'm very impressed. We had 3 people standing on one panel in the middle of a 4m span and it didn't even feel bouncy. It was an easy 8 hour day to get the entire roof/ceiling/insulation up and not a "tradie" amongst us. In fact I feel we probably have a better result than if we had used a roofing contractor. I know for a fact that every join is well sealed, every panel is screwed down with at least 50% more than the recommended minimum fasteners and everything is straight.... and all at a much better price. Good to see your 4-legged supervisor hard at work. Re: Studio (fancy shed) build 88Aug 09, 2014 9:17 am WHen I read studio, I thought about something like a single car garage. Wow! You're building a convention centre. And it looks great. I can't wait to see the progress on this one. Re: Studio (fancy shed) build 89Aug 10, 2014 8:43 pm We made a good start on the walls today. We're going to build the first 350mm of wall from stone and from there up use mudbricks. This should keep the weather off the mudbricks. Build thread http://tinyurl.com/llgc7yk Re: Studio (fancy shed) build 91Aug 13, 2014 11:34 pm More stone work today. We need to build about 32m in total and fit door frames as we go. So far we have done about half and hopefully will complete this job over the coming weekend. It's certainly much nicer working under cover now. Re: Studio (fancy shed) build 92Aug 14, 2014 2:00 pm That is absolutely gorgeous and so satisfying that it is all coming from site! You sure sound like you are making short work of it I have heaps of rocks on my site so it is great to see inspiration for what I could be doing Re: Studio (fancy shed) build 93Aug 15, 2014 9:18 pm Re: Studio (fancy shed) build 94Aug 15, 2014 9:33 pm That shed is going to be stunning. Must be so satisfying using all (or most) local materials. Re: Studio (fancy shed) build 95Aug 18, 2014 9:27 pm Weekend social / family duties brought a halt to activity on site and so there is still another 4m of stone work to be completed. And to add to that the love of my life is away interstate on a week-long training course so building work is at a standstill. Re: Studio (fancy shed) build 96Aug 21, 2014 12:40 am Enjoy the week off, I know it's frustrating, but time to recoup Build thread http://tinyurl.com/llgc7yk Re: Studio (fancy shed) build 97Aug 22, 2014 9:44 pm I got back out there this afternoon and have now built the last of the stone walls. Just need to be cleaned in the morning. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Some of the locals came by to check my string lines. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ After I've cleaned off the excess mortar tomorrow I'll start laying a single course of brick to provide a good flat surface to lay the mudbricks onto. I've collected a pile of old wire-cut red bricks that I think will look good.
