Re: Studio (fancy shed) build 46Jun 22, 2014 2:17 am I will get it inspected only if I have to. As it is my building and I am building it, I will ensure that it is built well beyond the minimum structural requirements. Ultimately it is my responsibility and I most certainly don't want it to fall down. Although I am not a builder I do have engineer certified drawings and plenty of common sense. Apart from charging me lots of money I'm not sure what a council inspector could offer me, they take no responsibility or legal liability in the event of a building failure in the future. And being a shed on a rural block with council planning approval, there are minimal legal requirements such as boundary setbacks (the nearest neighbour is at least half a km away) and height restrictions to worry about. The plastic and mesh are standing by. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ As soon as it gets light and the rain stops we'll run the compactor over once more and get ready for the concrete trucks. Later today, after pushing barrows of concrete for a few hours I'll wish I had been sleeping right now but I'm too excited and my mind is repeatedly going over all the preparation details. Re: Studio (fancy shed) build 50Jul 02, 2014 2:54 pm I love watching your progress, those mudbricks look like hard work but they will be worth it! I was wondering at first why you needed council approval for a shed on a big block in the middle of nowhere - then I saw how big it is! Fantastic that you are thinking big because later on you are going to be very glad Wondering if you are having to worry about bushfire ratings or not, since it is a shed and more than the minimum number of metres from the house? Re: Studio (fancy shed) build 51Jul 02, 2014 8:56 pm We are rated BAL19 here. There don't seem to be any council requirements for this type of building however we will be taking our own precautions/preparations around bushfires such as concrete water tanks, fire hose reels, sprinkler systems, diesel water pump and our own fast attack unit we keep on standby all summer. As the site supervisor, she was no doubt checking that the F62 mesh was correctly installed and that the concrete was meeting the appropriate applicable portions of AS1379 as specified in the BCA. Re: Studio (fancy shed) build 60Jul 04, 2014 2:55 pm Who needs the council to inspect when you've got the dog ! (I can just imagine the yelling "get back here you little !!!") I would suggest you simply go and talk to council about your proposal, most councils are getting onboard with ancillary dwellings.
