Love the recycled pallet work, great textures and forms, very nice, great level of finish, just shows what can be done with imagination and a heap of bloody hard work, love it, so well done !! It makes up nearly the whole wall. 4 meters long by 1.7m high. It will have 32 panes of glass. The centre 8 panes will be on a swivelling frame so that we can let a breeze through if required. http://i1054.photobucket.com/albums/s493/RuffTuff2/Bigoutsidewindow_zpsa362fe26.jpg We've been collecting free windows and glass when ever we see some. We'll cut our own glass panes from this collection and install them once the frame is in place. Its good to see your still working on your studio build and finding innovative ways to recycle materials into your studio and workshop. I hadn't seen a post for a while and was concerned you might have been sick or worse - lost interest in your build. Re: Studio (fancy shed) build 236Feb 17, 2015 8:36 am It would take more than sickness to keep us away from the build. We've been moving in, setting up tools, workbenches, filling up those drawers etc... Stewie, the big window will sit atop a mudbrick wall 1.2m high, so well above safety glass limits. Re: Studio (fancy shed) build 237Feb 20, 2015 9:52 pm The big windows frame is now finished and we got it installed just before dark. Really pleased at how well the opening mechanism works. http://i1054.photobucket.com/albums/s493/RuffTuff2/Bigwindowframe_zpsc1a5a0b4.jpg We've cut all the glass already so tomorrow we'll start fitting it. Re: Studio (fancy shed) build 238Feb 21, 2015 11:04 pm We built another small stone wall just out from the front retaining wall to create a garden bed and now we have planted some hardy drought tolerant agave and then made some "flowers" and planted them. http://i1054.photobucket.com/albums/s493/RuffTuff2/Frontgardenbed_zps66704307.jpg Re: Studio (fancy shed) build 239Feb 22, 2015 8:42 am Quote: Stewie, the big window will sit atop a mudbrick wall 1.2m high, so well above safety glass limits. I knew you'd have it covered ! I love the tilt mechanism too. Stewie Re: Studio (fancy shed) build 240Feb 22, 2015 7:39 pm Window frame looks very good. The top section is raking to match the ceiling and you have had to cut around the beam. It its relatively straightforward to make a rectangular wall but an irregular wall is trickly to set out. (I know, I have raking walls on my build) How are you going to fix the glass to the steel frame? I would suggest you simply go and talk to council about your proposal, most councils are getting onboard with ancillary dwellings.
