Browse Forums Owner Builder Forum 1 Mar 18, 2014 5:44 pm Hi all, we need some guidance on drainage… Could you please let me know if it's possible to achieve a slope in the shower area (towards a strip drain) by sloping the tiles only and without sloping the slab? We would like to avoid stepping floors in our wet areas and have same level, flat floor to the whole house however that create some problems with the drainage in shower areas… is it possible to achieve required slope by playing with mortar only?? many thanks Re: strip drain and achieving the slope 2Mar 18, 2014 6:52 pm To get a 'flat' floor you have the slab in the bathroom stepped down below the main slab level and then build up the level with the tile bed to get the effect you want. You won't get enough slope with the tile bed alone on a flat slab. The Harder You Try - the Luckier You Get ! Re: strip drain and achieving the slope 3Mar 19, 2014 8:07 am Not just the shower but the whole bathroom floor should slope towards the floor waste. The recommended ratio of fall within showers is between 1:60 and 1:80. The recommended ratio of fall in other areas is between 1:80 and 1:100. In showers we used to aim for 15-20mm fall if possible. Stewie Hi everyone, Just wondering if anyone has switched from a small square tile insert or normal square waste to a strip drain at all, and if so did the plumber or diy-er… 0 13128 Grab a hose, insert it at the top of the inlet/down pipe and turn the water on and see where the water is escaping from. Then you'll know. 3 8454 |
