Browse Forums Owner Builder Forum 1 Mar 12, 2014 6:04 pm Hi all, we are just about to finalise our slab related shopping and I wanted to double check with you if there is any difference between all the bar chairs that are available…? Are some better than the others? combination/slab-on-ground/clip-on/wire bar? Many thanks Re: Bar Chairs - any difference? 3Mar 13, 2014 12:34 pm The best chairs are the plastic ones that you place then push the mesh down onto thereby locking in small clips in the chair that hold the mesh in situ. They also tend not to pierce the DPC when you stand on the mesh unlike the all metal ones that need a plate underneath and can rust ( eventually ). Ones like this http://www.whiteswires.com.au/Products/ ... hairs.aspx They usually have two heights you can set the mesh at as per the engineers drawings. Stewie Re: Bar Chairs - any difference? 5Mar 13, 2014 7:24 pm While on this topic, i presume there are specs for minimum chairs per sq m in the engineering, but is there value in placing extra chairs.... I read "somewhere" that using more is better for reducing reducing bowing of the mesh as workers walk around... Concretors should know, but other trades are often involved at that stage as well.. Re: Bar Chairs - any difference? 6Mar 13, 2014 10:25 pm One of my engineering drawings says 1 per sqm for a floor slab but we used to put in a few more than that ( depending on how many were left in the bag ). We also used to alternate rows in both directions. They are the only ones Ive ever see in domestic work. I think they are the defacto standard. I was differentiating between the two most common - plastic and wire as seen here... http://www.arcreo.com.au/product_family/15 The wire ones are used a lot in suspended slabs, beams etc where the concrete is seen from below.
