Browse Forums Owner Builder Forum 1 Feb 21, 2014 9:40 am We want to built another new home now. We previously obtained an owner builder licence in WA back in 2003. How does this make it easier to get another owner builder's licence now? Tips and suggestions please, to make the process as simple as possible. Re: Owner builder in 2003 WA 2Feb 22, 2014 1:01 pm In Qld anyway, when you are elegible to apply for a second permit to build, they treat you like a noob, and you are made to do their useless courses all over again. They wont miss you if there is an opportunity to fleece you of some cash, all in the name of education, and public safety. Id be gobsmacked if WA cut you any slack. ITs all about raking in $$ from Joe Citizen, and keeping the training undustry propped up, forget about common sense, or the govt respecting you enough to admit you might have a brain. Re: Owner builder in 2003 WA 3Feb 23, 2014 3:39 pm qebtel, I agree with you but only up to a point. Some of the fixit jobs we have taken on over the years have been to builds that were started by owner builders but either never finished or because the long suffering wife has had enough and couldn't take any more etc etc. Some of the work had to be pulled down and completely re-done. The others were really rough or had myriad issues regarding flashings around windows, waterproofing, termite proofing etc. OH&S and certified work were non-exisistant. The words common sense and brain that you used were sadly lacking on these jobs. I think the authorities ( apart from getting a bit of cash ) are trying to lift the standard a bit however harshly it may seem. It saved endless hours of hunting for specific regs, pointed out the newer ones etc. I don't know how other Courses are run, but not coming from the Building Industry, but the topics were targeted and provided shortcuts in planning process. One example, went to Council for Pre-Planning Permit meeting, but came out with the whole Application done. It went through, only one RFI, and that was Council's issue. YMMV Hi VK, Think it's worth investing time in an Owner Builder course to equip you with basic knowledge on Australian Building Industry and its regulations. Also, I suggest… 11 23608 Hi all. Anyone know when the $11,000 limit was set in legislation for renovations in QLD? Ive been renovating for 5 years now and this was the limit back then. As we know,… 0 4250 |
