Browse Forums Owner Builder Forum Re: Owner building in Jimboomba 61Dec 15, 2014 10:21 pm Have had internet access problems here at the rental for the whole last week, so haven't had much of a chance to update my blog, let alone here. Have now had the kitchen and laundry cabinets installed, and the gyprocking had also been done in the past few weeks. I've now started on putting the undercoats of paint on some of the walls, and colour for the walls will be Hogs Bristle. Still waiting on the garage door, after the first time to install it I noticed that it was not insulated as ordered, so had to be taken back and door remanufactured, but unfortunately delayed due to lack of materials ! Re: Owner building in Jimboomba 63Dec 19, 2014 7:53 pm I must take some photos and put them up online then, now that I have some internet access back again. The lesson I've learnt here is never use 'naked adsl', because once you've lost your adsl connection, you don't have any phones in the house ! Garage door is now due to be installed on Tuesday... let's hope so ! Owner Building at Jimboomba Woods in Logan City Qld. Re: Owner building in Jimboomba 64Jan 08, 2015 11:01 am Still waiting on those pics...was the garage door installed?? Re: Owner building in Jimboomba 65Jan 08, 2015 11:13 am Garage door installed as promised. The whole home is moderately cool, even on the hottest days, and there's still no insulation batts installed in the roof yet! Getting quotes for carpet in the bedrooms and floating floor in the office/study this week, as well as considering what water pump to get. Money is now getting rather tight, so it looks like I'm going to have put off the solar PV for a while. Going to pick up the stove/oven this weekend, so it'll be there ready for the plumber/gas fitter to install it. Have now got the phone on there, with a ADSL connection being organised right now. Come across a sticking point with wall and ceiling insulation though, the building certifier wants a form 16 certificate for the installation, which I had done myself... awaiting his suggestions as to how to proceed. Re: Owner building in Jimboomba 67Jan 09, 2015 10:50 pm Just putting together some cheap vanities from the "Big Green Box" for $200 to go in there next week, and the plumber is coming in to do the fit off next week. Still ordering the Apricus ET hotwater system, so that can go in after the plumber does his bit. Looking at the moment at a Dab Esybox water pump to go on there. Getting some up to date quotes for shower screens and mirrors for both ensuite and bathroom. So yes, it shouldn't be too much longer before we can get in. Sadly though the spare cash has disappeared, so we won't be getting solar PV for a little while now. Good thing is that the private certifier says I can fill in my own Form 16 for the insulation. Just have to put all the form 16's together for him. Owner Building at Jimboomba Woods in Logan City Qld. Blog : http://bandlnewhomebuild.blogspot.com H1 thread : viewtopic.php?f=38&t=68283 . Re: Owner building in Jimboomba 68Feb 02, 2015 1:27 pm sounds like its all coming together you should add some more photos have you seen our block lately? Last time we were there it was covered in waist high "grass" lol. Apparently its due to be slashed once the rain disappears! Re: Owner building in Jimboomba 69Feb 02, 2015 5:56 pm Yes, we're slowly getting there bit by bit. Haven't been down your way since early January though. Have now got my solar hotwater and PV system... all 26 panels are now up there, just waiting on Energex (latin for out of power), to change the meter over so I can at least get 8c kw/h feed in tariff. We got the carpets done in the bedrooms, and I've laid the floating floor in my office/radio shack. Shower screens and mirrors now measured up and ordered, so once that's done and we get the certification for it, I can get all the certs to the builder certifier to get occupancy, and move in. Was out there today with the mower, cutting down down the out of control grass. but broke the cutter deck belt. Still having problems with the nuts from next door.... they lodged a complaint with the council regarding my security light on sensor switch, so the council came out, verified it was not pointed at their house, took photos and left. Did a burnoff of a few boxes and timber, only a small one, so they phoned up 000 and got the fire brigade out for a plastics fire, and also lodged a complaint with the council on it (Logan only allows outdoor fires to cook on, or with a fire permit from a fire warden). Just the other day, the council phoned me and told me that they've complained about the security light again, so the council will be coming out to check it out again, this time of a night time, so more ratepayers money wasted. Big Green Box or Big Blue Box all means the same as what you call a shed. Got my Dab pump the other week, works really well. The only problem is putting it out and taking it back in of a night time... heavy little bugger. Cross ventilation is so important. The heat affects the capacitors down here, more so with the plastic pump covers. We have the same rules here - total fire bans excepted of course. We've burned off quite a bit of firewood from various prunings, small tree removals, timber crates , offcuts etc over the years and all I do is a have a hot plate with some snags ready to go on once the fire dies down a bit. Any firies turn up, offer them a snag and a beer. Problem solved. In the meantime I've had the fire warden out and got a permit to burn over the next couple of months. It was suggested by those who turned up for the call, that next time I ensure I have a bag of marshmallows to toast by the fire. Owner Building at Jimboomba Woods in Logan City Qld. I'm further up on the right side past Eyre court. The problem (or one of many), is that they are good friends with the covenant people, apparently the covenant people visit them for meals and the like. Of course being friends, the covenant people don't question what they're talking about, and take it as gospel what they are saying. I've heard several people have been dobbed in by them for what really amounted to insignificant things. You should change your location in your profile to Jimboomba if you like.
